Mama bear. Librarian. Outdoorsy. Leftist. Rather be hiking. 🏳️‍🌈☸️ 🧶📚Ask me for a book recommendation. She/her.

Home for lunch. I have been practicing my mehndi a lot this festival season. This morning is my 1st hopeful morning in a while. May 1000 flowers of hope & solidarity bloom 🌸✊

Your regular reminder that we have ❗️no idea❗️what’s gonna hit us all re climate change. Pictured here your bear in the middle of the Ausable River this weekend. I believe it’s at a record low due to the bad drought rn in the Adirondacks. The high water mark during Irene was several FEET above -

My partner captured an absolutely EPIC climber on Moss Cliff near the Copperas Pond trailhead in Wilmington. Anyone ever tried it? It’s so beautiful, gives El Cap vibes viewing from the river. #Adirondacks 🧗🏽

Unexpectedly marvelous first paddle in the #Adirondacks yesterday. Can you believe a bear has never paddled her fav wilderness before? Tho this was gorgeous, in fairness, Lake Flower not really wilderness 🤣🌲🌳

Weather could have been worse on top of Whiteface, eh? 🤩⛰️ #Adirondacks

I am sick today & continuing my rewatch of the oeuvre of the absolutely brilliant Ang Lee. Among his amazing work, Brokeback Mountain is still one of my fav films of all time. I am really sad for all of the art that the descent into ever more horrifying fascism is denying us. 💔🏳️‍🌈

[manical, villain laughter] IT BEGINS 🍁🍂🍁🍂

FINALLY finished the first project I genuinely disliked knitting. This yarn was weirdly flat & elliptical, kept winding itself into knots & requiring me to hang the scarf up every 3-4 rows to let itself unwind. Took MONTHS. Even my model doesn’t like it. Oooooh well. 🤣 #craftsky #yarn 🧶

The haaaauuuul. Hard won, too many people & too much weather 😮‍💨 but worth it! 🧶

More gorgeous coastal forest. Fam, my vacation brain today is terminal 😭🌲🥾

More coastal wandering yesterday. I love my library but hate having to work. When’s retirement again?

They have guarded the forest for eons and will do so for eons after we are gone. Thank you, great ones.
September 1, 2025 at 1:30 AM
The forest is home to those who are wiser than us, who have seen eons and are thus unimpressed with human delusions of grandeur. I went to seek their counsel today 🌲🙏🥾

Checking in. Is the world still shitty? Come into the forest with me. 🌲🥾

Trying to keep knitting good into the world. Privileged to say this is a result of some stash busting of @isasaxonists.bsky.social beautiful colorways. Neon green sprinkle & pale green knight. I don’t feel v good at colorwork, but the yarn combo works divinely ❤️ #craftsky #yarn 🧶

HUZZAH the Yarnian gods have smiled upon your bear! They bless those of us who remember to be in solidarity with Palestine 🇵🇸❤️. This sparkle though!! The perfection of the colors 🤩🤩 Pardon me while I go cast on my (no joke) 4TH concurrent project with @isasaxonists.bsky.social beautiful colorways 🧶

Jacques Roumain’s canonical pillar of Haitian (& I’d argue leftist) literature “Gouverneurs de la Rosée.” If you want to understand Haitian history & Francophone literature, you gotta read it (again preferably in French, though apparently Langston Hughes did an English translation? 🤩🤩)
August 2, 2025 at 5:13 PM
Lloyd Alexander’s “The Book of Three” - & really this is an endorsement of the entire series, the Chronicles of Prydain. It’s a travesty this canonical series of children’s fantasy has not had a high production value TV series yet. Someone get on that shit A S A P.

Tonight’s first rec is a book that really grounded me into my fav activism maxim for this horrid year: those who came before us did incredible, history changing things with far, far less freedom. Tiya Miles’s “Night Flyer.” The bio of Harriet Tubman you didn’t know you needed ✊

Good morning! Upon taking the below picture, I accidentally wasted a whole hour re-reading Jen Wang’s “Ash’s Cabin.” I am not normally into YA, but this is just too good to pass up. Among other pluses, it’s the best non-binary coming of age story I’ve read. 🏳️‍🌈
July 30, 2025 at 12:48 PM
Justin Farrell’s “Billionaire Wilderness.” Even though the reporting is all done in the Tetons, the phenomena described here happens all over the country - Lake Placid in the Adirondacks is the example I know well. Farrell got a lot of obscenely rich people to tell on themselves 😬

The absolutely essential @keeanga.bsky.social ‘s “From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation.” It’s a gift to have this much knowledge, history & incendiary takes in such a readable volume! #BLM never ended as a movement, just like systemic racism has not ended bc the regime says so. ✊
