Found this when flicking through photos for my profile here. Seemed an appropriate image for my first post. Taken on Embleton beach, 22nd August 2022, on hottest day I’ve experienced in nearly 25 years living in Northumberland.

Johnson culled the Tory Party of all but its grimmest dregs & now the grimmest of the grimmest dregs are defecting to Reform. It would be funny if it didn't alllow them, along with Farage, to pretend that they're not responsible for the state of the nation.

Thank God there were people filming. This administration would have said Alex Pretti pulled a handgun, a package of fentanyl, and a signed copy of the Communist Manifesto if they could.

The Washington Post published a clear video of federal agents removing Alex Pretti's handgun moments before he was fatally shot. There's nothing in the video to suggest Pretti even reached for his weapon.

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

There’s not much to smile about in the US situation right now, but there’s a pleasingly farcical nature to the fact that the First Lady has had to build a temporary White House cinema to premiere her biopic/bribe, because her husband just randomly knocked down the actual White House cinema.

Normally I defend the people Mountain Rescue picks up - there is no shame in it.

In this case, however, they sound like proper tossers who have cost the service well over £150.

Not even 'both sides' here - the crucial bit is removed out from the parents' statement (giving the false impression that they did not rebut the administration's lies), while the administration's lie is presented without rebuttal. Truly appalling stuff.

There's also no way of explaining this to the non-terminally-online without sounding insane.

"...and so the penguin is a reference to American far-right memes calling for the US to take over Greenland."

"But penguins don't live in Greenland."

"I know."
It used to be said that the left was far too 'online', but it seems that this is increasingly (more) so for the right nowadays.

Had no idea Edin Džeko was still playing! Just watched him score a goal on his debut in the 87th minute as Schalke came back from 2-0 down to share the points with Kaiserslautern. A dramatic end to the match, but still dropped points for the Bundesliga 2 leaders.

Alex Jeffrey Pretti was an ICU nurse at a VA hospital. His life, through his profession, was dedicated to serving his community and our country.

As so many have now seen on video, his final act before he was killed by federal agents was doing everything in his power to protect his community.
