Mostly poetry and soccer from an antifascist, neurodivergent, genderqueer, Christian heretic perspective. Also practical and impractical uses of language and images in and out of our current context, and an item a day from the published archives.

God and I were
out for a bicycle ride yesterday.

She had never ridden
a bicycle, so I asked
what in the hell were you thinking?

She didn't hesitate.

She said she was sorry
she was responsible
for this whole mess on Earth
because she was an overbearing parent.
God and I were walking
in the woods this morning.

He was quiet for a long time,
& I finally asked him
what he was thinking.

He didn’t hesitate.

He said, I was thinking about Eden
& how happy we all were there.
I wish I’d given that young couple
another chance.

Unfortunately there are too many Democrats who depend on the rich for income.
We have to listen to bigoted handwringing about how we have to abandon trans people and marginalized communities and immigrants while the clearest election winning message is right there.
"Do the rich have too much political power?"

Yes: 80%
No: 8%

I wind my wishes
onto the tree
wrapped up in tinsel,
they sparkle and twinkle
reflected in the mirrored
glass of a shiny bauble

they seem less sad,
less make believe,
when I see them
lit up on the tree

maybe it means
they might come true—

maybe he'll be there
under the mistletoe.

Sometimes I read poems too quickly. This one deserves to be read slowly, to be read more than once, with attention paid to every word...

US host cities facing at least $250m shortfall due to new Fifa deal

Fifa take virtually all WC revenue, and costs supposed to be covered by sponsors

But cities can’t do big deals as, eg, convenience store Wawa cuts across Fifa deal with McDonald’s

In other words, tech bros have created the Tower of Babel.
Folks might not know a lot of people are getting *very* upset that the materials they request are not available in the libraries/archives they're requesting from.

We're getting lots here at the Library of Virginia: requests of documents likely surfaced by large language models that *do not exist*.
I wish a notice like this wasn't necessary.
