Interesting (to me, at least) encounter yesterday with an axe-wielding killer:
I was out getting steps when a homeowner called me over. I turned. He started approaching me and I saw that he was holding a hatchet. He asked me a question - I think it was something like ‘Can you help me?’ ‘Not when you’re holding an axe!,’ I half-yelled.

Story 🧵.
Semi-spoiler: Snake!

The Trump administration is providing to immigration officials the names of ALL travelers passing through U.S. airports.

They are watching YOU. But don’t worry, if you’ve done nothing wrong, you’ll be fine.
SCOOP: The Trump administration is providing the names of all travelers passing through U.S. airports to immigration officials in search of people with deportation orders, a substantial expansion of government efforts to draw on data to hunt down immigrants.

For years, National Parks passes featured the winner of an annual photography competition.

Trump wants his face on them instead.

As if that weren’t gross enough, the administration recently announced it would no longer allow free admission on MLK Day and Juneteenth… but will for Trump’s birthday.

Why do the Republicans lie so much about Obamacare?

They want it to die, but don’t want to be seen killing it.

A THREAD.
1. If you have been following the healthcare debate in Washington, you probably know that subsidies for those of us who buy insurance via state-based Obamacare exchanges are going to run out by year’s end.

It needs to be said occasionally that if you're a liberal, there is no alternative political party. The Democrats are what you have. Yes, there are minor parties, but they only matter when they work in tandem with the Dems. You can't write off the Democrats. You have to push them forward.

On this website, I often see a customer service attitude toward the Democrats, as in: they are not doing what I want them to do so I'll shop around elsewhere. There is no elsewhere. This is America. There are two parties. That's it. If they are not what you want, you have to make them be it.

This state of affairs can be maddening. That should also be said. I struggle to balance hope for the future and knowledge of what has been. The Democrats can be disappointing, to say the least. But they are the only vehicle for progress. If there's to be a New New Deal, it will come from the Dems.

Republicans use the "I'm not familiar with that" dodge several times a day now, and if a reporters or anchor isn't ready and willing to shut them down as soon as they try it, that means they're either incompetent at their job or a willing accomplice to the lies.

Either way, never trust them again.
If they pretend they haven’t heard about the story of the day, end the interview right there.

There is no sight that more efficiently puts the lie to immigration “court” than the common sight of children “representing themselves.” Children too small to climb into the chair, children in pajamas who don’t know where they are, children not yet old enough to speak.

I've been saying this for a year now: the Democrats have missed a gigantic political opportunity--and, at this point, have failed in an ethical obligation--to create a shadow-government health department that dispenses medically accurate information, guidance, and advice.

The Constitution is very straightforward on birthright citizenship. There's no ambiguity in the language, no other plausible interpretation.

The fact that this is a public discussion at all, and that the Supreme Court is taking it up, is on its own anti-constitutional bullshit.

41 minutes of watching two shipwrecked men trying to flip a boat and signaling for surrender/help before firing on them again reminds me of the 9.5 minutes Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck, in that it’s an agonizingly long time to be killing helpless people who clearly posed no threat.
