Redwing (Turdus iliacus) a seasonal migrant from Scandinavia that come over the North Sea to take advantage of our milder winter climate. A Mistle Thrush (Turdus viscivorus) is a year round UK resident. They find themselves in competition with migrant species for berries. Fieldfare (Turdus pilaris) is also a seasonal migrant that come over the North Sea from Scandinavia to take advantage of our milder winter climate and plentiful supply of berries. Bohemian waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus) also travel over the North Sea in large numbers some years. Other years virtually none arrive. So far this year I have not seen a single one.

in America, è questo il pettirosso!

In inglese lo stesso nome, robin, viene usato sia per per questo uccello americano, Turdus migratorious, che per il nostro pettirosso europeo, Erithacus rubecola. A parte il piumaggio del petto dello stesso colore, aspetto e abitudini sono alquanto diversi.

The American Robin is actually a member of the thrush family, genus (I shit you not), Turdus.
Three birds considering their names: Raven (corvus corax) Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja) and American Robin (Turdus migratorius). The Robin does not look pleased.

The Fieldfare has a chestnut-brown back and yellowy breast, streaked with black. It has a black tail, dark wings and pale grey rump and head, with a black-tipped yellow bill. It is perching at the top of a bare Sycamore, although the tree is in bud in December!
