The cinematography really transported me into the story / time period and made all the genre / surreal / fantasy elements so believable because the camerawork was so intentional and the lighting and tone - were spot on - I was already there. The cinematography that made me feel things alone.

Started rereading Gravity's Rainbow today. It's been a bit over twenty years since the last time I read it, and a bit over thirty since the first time. It is slow, dense, byzantine and meandering, not so much like reading a story as wandering a landscape unmoored in time. I fucking love it.
