How to tell a tattooist early on I want no AI used for my tattoo?
First time poster here, quite a few tattoos already. This is my second time going to this artist and the first was a few years ago for a tattoo based off a photo. No suspicion of AI. THE STORY: However, I’ve gone to her with an original idea on a character from a book. I found a few other artists who did their takes and sent, both tattoos and paper drawings, as reference. Plus all the descriptions of the character from the book. I like the art she posts of tattoos she does, so I thought it’d be a god fit. Today—tattoo appointment is tomorrow—she sent over a mockup of the character that I highly suspected was AI. It wasn’t until I started following this page that I ever even THOUGHT a tattoo artist would use AI. All my artist friends are as anti-AI as I am, so I just assumed a tattoo artist would be. THE QUESTION: How can I, in the future, go to an artist and from the get-go let my distaste for AI art be known without insulting the artist? Side-note: I am not an artsy type myself but work in the performing arts world and have many artist friends. I’m a big believer in finding a tattoo artist that I like and giving them subject matter THEY are interested in doing. If I want a beautiful realistic portrait, I’m not going to go to an artist that says they love doing cartoony bright color pieces. Not the fault of the artist, imo. They’re allowed to like what they like just as I am. If they don’t want to do the subject matter I want, I’d hope they’d just say it wasn’t an interest to them so I can go find the right artist. tl;dr: I HIGHLY suspect my artist of sending me an AI mockup. How can I in the future advertise my Anti-AI attitude to an artist before we get to booking my appointment & putting moolah down? Yeah if you scroll up under LBII’s original post, you’ll see a snap I took right after my 2024 tatt, and it has the same crinkle look. I was unfamiliar with them until the tattooist applied it, as it had been 9 years since my last ink.

It's honestly not too bad depending where you get. I barely felt the arms. The chest near the middle I may have threatened to spit in my tattooist and close friend mouth if he ever came near me again...
