#stickseed
yeah stickseed is also a pain in the ass. altho at least in my yard it grows slow enough and early enough that i usually manage to get rid of most of them before they get a chance to seed

Can anyone help me identify these stick seeds? It kind of looks like Virginia stickseed but all the pictures online have much smoother edged leaves so I don't think that's what this is. I'm in Ohio.

PS and now I need to get this damn stickseed off my clothes after I accidentally brushed up against it while planting in the dark. Beneficial to habitat but abso-effin-lutely sucks to get these off clothes. Even if they do look like cool haunted halloween trees when dormant and untouched...

It's either American stickseed or Virginia stickseed, and me and the pups think it should burn in hell.

I hope so. This guy's new this year. I haven't seen this here in previous years. I'm pretty sure this is the five angled dodder or Cuscuta pentagona, but I'll go out tomorrow for a proper ID. I only have a tiny area of it, and it keeps the stickseed in check. Doesn't seem to kill it.

That entire section in the second photo will be dug out deeper for a massive vernal pond. Behind me is more "marsh" that stretches all the way to those trees in the back, the skunk cabbage covers all of this in spring, both sides. So they'll get to live behind this log with the fox grapes et al.

I'm covered in stickseed

I don't mind this one. But I've run into enough stickseed that I agree on that and pull it. I posted it as #48 before removing, though.

Yeah… I know it’s native but I just can’t (though it escapes me often). Stickseed is native too. Can’t keep that one around either.

#48: Like the previous, each flower turns into a bur. This one is more annoying because it's taller and thus a bigger headache when I inevitably run into it in the fall. Came with the yard and I pulled it after documenting.

Most of the creek is just bare and erosion is bad. I'm working on it so I can finally finish the vernal pond at the end where this dumps out. It's in such a bad state, I'm not damaging anything. Just a lot of skunk cabbage, stickseed and invasive species.

So iNaturalist got a whole new app with the fancy camera ID thing, and I decided to try it out by wandering around the yard.

APP: …fuck if I know…fuck if I know…TUMBLEWEED!!!…fuck if I know…that’s one’s something in the borage family…
ME: But what KIND of borage?
APP: I dunno, a stickseed.
