I spent all week working on this watercolor "Ferns, Dogwood, Trillium" design, which is now complete, scanned in, cleaned up and uploaded to my shop on Threadless. I already ordered mine in chalky mint in the Comfort Colors shirts. Any correlation to FDT may or may not be intentional.

The next zine is up. A little fun and goofy, but you get the idea.

You also get a pocket-sized recipe booklet on how to make my MagiK Mix seed starting mix for much cheaper than most garden center mixes. This will fill all your winter sowing jugs, probably.

SCAM ALERT

The Vermont Wildflower Farm (legit site, I've ordered from them before) seems to have someone catfishing with their site. The copycat is vermontwildflowerfarmour dot shop

It's not hijacked and redirected but a separate instance. Be careful out there.

Some of my overwintering evergreen plants. Lygodium palmatum (with a photobomb from Juncus effusus 'Spiralis' seed strain), Lygodium palmatum in my garden, Helonias bullata and Marshallia caespitosa. There's marsh fern mixed in with some of the Lygodium, because it likes to get around. #NativePlants

I propose a common name change for Lilium philadelphicum from prairie lily to...

Philly Lily.

Who's with me? It just sounds so much better that way. Rolls off the tongue. Helps you remember the species.

I was asked for an update on my Lygodium palmatum sporelings (sporophytes) which I'll be offering for sale starting this year. I have larger ones outside overwintering, which I'll share tomorrow. This is how I grow them - in a self-watering propagation bin under lights in my basement.

I've been really trying to keep this profile to only native plant related things, especially as a business, but there's something that's a massive security concern for all of us. Watch Benn Jordan's recent videos. If you own a ring device, or any kind of video doorbell that involves a service ykwtd
Amazon Ring security cameras moving deeper into law enforcement with Flock Safety, Axon deals
Amazon Ring security cameras are getting more deeply into police work through deals with Flock Safety and Axon at time of rising debate over crime levels.

Finally installed Obsidian and have been busy trying to get my ish organized, including inventorying all my seeds that I have just for my own purposes.

1. Holy shit I have a lot of seeds.

2. Doesn't stop me from ordering ones I don't have yet.

Gotta collect them all.

Homeschool outing today. My son was asking why the butternut looked different on this Souperman at the Wood in Art Museum in Philly.

Haha... butternut 😂 this one tickled all the punny bones

Other personal focus areas: Nature journaling. Planners w/ stickers. Adult coloring books. Sewing. Embroidery. Homeschooling. SEEDS. Watercolor painting. Thrifting. Waxing my thrifted army green canvas jacket before lining it with a botanical printed cotton gauze stuffed with milkweed fluff. Music.
u heard sharon, everyone post about their esoteric interests right fucking now. for the good of the community, we need to be hyperfixationmaxxing.
i think this site really needs to figure out how to grow the non-politics verticals (the baseball moment was a good thing!) because i suspect a lot of the bad clusters come out of the political clusters driving 95% of ENG-lang posts

If you haven't looked at seeds under a microscope, even a cheapy $20 digital one, you're missing out.
This place needs some Innocuous Discourse pronto. Quote this with a take that’s not political or aggressive

Something that frustrates me is the surprising lack of photo documentation of seeds on the internet. Some seeds are obvious. Others, not so much. Here's Hylotelephium telephioides seed. It's the elongated teardrop shaped one. Not the equally heavy roundish brown bits. #NativePlants

I wish I had time to dedicate to this properly. Please note, they're not just handing out free seeds. If you're willing to take on the responsibility of a proper seed trial and submit data, sign up!. This is how we help to continue the line of contemporary garden-adapted heirloom crops.

In case you were curious what Rhododendron periclymenoides seed looks like, this is it. Rhodie seeds in general look similar to one another.
I will have Rhododendron maximum 2nd year seedlings available this year, as well as a few Rhododendron colemanii, both of which I grew from seed last year.

Came up in convo with a friend, another nursery owner, who just got a tat...
I'd be totally willing to barter plants for tats. In fact I'd be willing to barter for other things, contractor work, car mechanics, etc.

Why can't we bring bartering back? I mean I know it doesn't pay the bills, but...

When you're a big nerd at heart and excited to get a new microscope for Christmas... time to dust off my AmScope slide boxes and test it out!

This will make checking seeds so much easier for some of the species I grow.

Few things are more comforting this time of year than sipping on hot mulled wine while spending well over an hour to perfectly string up the lights on a Pennsylvania-grown Douglass fir. Normally I prefer Balsam or Fraser firs, but Douglass is certainly less... sappy? It's quite a bit messier though

I've been getting back into a daily sketchbook practice, and love how this one turned out. I sliced oranges and put them in the dehydrator to string up as a garland for our tree. My son says they are also a good snack. I had to ask him to save them for the tree, but clearly, I need more oranges now.

My favorite thing about my oak-hickory woodland when it comes to winter interest are the large patches of native grasses, sedges and rushes that I've been encouraging to spread by keeping areas free from leaves. It's fun seeing which species choose to colonize which areas - sun, shade, dry, wet...
