🌍 Did you know, when the sedimentary rocks of Beacon Hill were laid down - 565 million years ago - Charnwood Forest would have been at the bottom of the sea.

Back then our region was far from where it is now, with a latitude of around 60° south of the equator!

I’m trying to develop some new vessels/forms this year & my first one is big slab-built jars that are also sort of little narratives (at least the medieval sea one definitely is…I suppose the story of the seal one is ‘seals are pretty’ 😂)!

I went sailing in Greece and went to a small island by dinghy for an evening glass of something and as we watched the sunset we realised the clouds were actually smoke from forest fires that were approaching the coast.

Well, back on my old bullshit: writing a novel. Should be done sometime this month.
The sea felt like fury down below when I came out on the cliff overlooking the cove. Never mind my triumph, in the stinging cold rain, at uncovering a coastal path hidden so expertly that it felt intentional—through bramble and bushes, across huge moss-covered boulders that looked as if dropped randomly from the sky, through the dead blackness of old-growth forest smothered by dark gray skies. There had been a corresponding drop in the pit of my stomach half-way there, a vibration in my ears, the sensation of pushing through a weight of wind. To then emerge into that open space and see spread out beneath me such a wealth, a vision, a miracle. A place that should not have existed, by anyone’s measure. I like to think my sister would have shared my elation.

Winter has settled in for a long visit in the mountains.
Snow-covered pines and firs on mountain pass. Wet side of Morgan Summit (6813 ft. above sea level) during winter storm. Shot taken while riding in car. Nowhere to pull off as snow plows were barely keeping up with road. The whole forest looked like a giant snow globe after shaking. These majestic trees make a person feel minuscule by comparison.
