When I was a teen, my mom gave me numbers to dial before the actual number I was calling, for free calls from payphones. They were all like 10 digits. Can't remember what the fuck they were called, but I got really good at memorizing numbers because of that

payphones started requiring quarters, dimes no longer being sufficient, due to inflation

So how about those... VHS tapes? Yeah, remember those?

There used to be phones that you had to pay for called "payphones". Hence the name "pay" "phone". Get it?

Television used to be broadcast over the air like radio. Remember FM radio? There was a different thing called "AM radio" too!

In the early 2000s, I had a pretty decent dirtbag cellphone by keeping a pink plastic pager, a refillable phone card, and knowing where all the payphones were in my neighborhood.

If you were at the mall and wanted to call a friend, sometimes you would have to wait because there was a line at the payphones.

(There used to be a hierarchy of phone lines back in the dark old days. Emergency always open circuits, middle tier and low tier. In the UK the always open tier was government comms and payphones.)

3) Wrong Number - Payphones

Some bias here, as I know them, but the garagey sound is so cool. This album is short put packs a punch and makes you want to dance. For being only three people, they make so much noise. Really cool stuff

We lost our rural daily bus in 2005. The city wanted to manage the county so the renamed it all Municipality, and they took our bus away, we never got cellular but our elected councilors voted to give Bell Aliant 5 million dollars for WiFi for tourists on road, and they took our payphones out.
