Looking at the 2024 NCVS, which came out in September, and this really stood out to me.

The group with the highest rate of violent victimization (serious or not) are the separated. Bet the breakout by sex would be telling too.

Seems to highlight a key role domestic violence plays in crime rate.

The NCVS uses survey data rather than official police reports, so it tends to show higher crime than police stats.

In 1993, American households had a 4.5% chance of experiencing a burglary.

The drop is attributed to a few factors: locking houses, shifting to credit cards, and now doorbell cameras.

Fractal recursivity on display with a non-linguist I know up here, lifelong Michigan resident with no Northern Cities Vowel Shift - he thinks the NCVS sounds firmly Canadian.

What a deranged meltdown.

It’s statistically rare for trans women to be perpetrators of sexual violence — they are in fact four times more likely to be *victims* of it! williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/press/ncvs-t...

An important reminder, trans people are much more likely to be killed than kill someone else. Trans people are over 4X more likely than cis people to be the victim of a violent crime: williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/press/ncvs-t...

It's not worth arguing with them in the first place. We know that trans-identifying people are more likely to be victims of sexual abuse/assault than cis-identifying individuals, and they're trying to claim otherwise.

Trans men suffer rates of violent victimisation even higher than trans women (both vastly higher than cis ppl) so please don't wish trans men's experience on trans women.
Per 1000 ppl:
Trans women: 86.1
Trans men: 107.5
Cis women: 23.7
Cis men: 19.8

The July 2021–November 2022 period aligns with the 2022 NCVS data collection, though it’s not isolated in reports. Increases were likely concentrated in urban regions, supported by city-specific rises in robberies and assaults,

I believe the NCVS would have such data.

Ah, and we're back. I've read that we're 4 times more likely to be victims of assault than cis people. But why is that any excuse to harass random trans people as if we're all rapists? I've never raped anybody and don't plan to.

I moved to Boston from the Midwest in the mid-90s, and yeah, I picked up “wicked”. 7 years in Philly got me saying “wooder” too, but being back in Boston for 5, the word “water” for me is some weird incomprehensible mix of NCVS vowels, a Philly middle consonant and a trace of NE nonrhoticity.

You need to do your research dear. The problem with anti trans activists is that they ignore actual verified researched evidence and produce unverified made up photo shops of their own.

it really pisses me off when terfs use the excuse “we’re protecting women” to be bigoted assholes

if you gave a shit about violence against others then you would be protecting the trans community not making the world a more dangerous place 🖕

SPI. Vital info on who is incarcerated and why. There's no way to reform the system without this national info. NCVS. Good data on crime (including unreported) is hard to get, but this survey collects it from victims.

Oh, I like this one!

1. UCR/NCVS divergence (so hard to know what our crime numbers say).

2. That famous Gallup poll (fear of crime is abt broader social fears).

3. Who voted for Krasner (so much info is at the super-micro level).

"Violent victimizations of bisexual persons (31%) were less likely to be reported to police than violent victimizations of straight persons (45%)" or lesbian or gay people (58%)
December 16, 2024 at 9:47 PM
The graph here is the national reported-to/identified-by police rates (UCR).

But at least for violence, the NCVS shows a similar trend: johnkroman.substack.com/p/unpacking-.... (Post doesn't look at property, bet it's the same.)
Unpacking National Crime Statistics
More frequent crime reporting would reduce the confusion that is clouding the presidential election
