Why is science for policy so hard? #3

A lot of public policy is about people, the economy and society all of which are complex systems. So a lot of social and behavioural science will be needed but these sciences are relatively new compared to natural sciences and are more affected by myside bias.

Large (k=175) cross-temporal (4 decades) meta-analysis by Takacs et al finds emotional and behavioural problems among young people are not up vs previous generations, but have shifted (eg less aggression, more attention issues):

I had a mental health problem til I was well and truly into my mid-60s - teachers all thought I was intelligent but "wouldn't work" - I couldn't work the standard education model - not even remotely - I believe the system badly needs some kind of behavioural education from year dot.
