We don't need beavers. They are not native. Braided and wetland river systems developed in Ireland without them. Bankside trees will fall into rivers in their own time. We just need to stop 'cleaning' and dredging rivers that are to be used as natural flood infrastructure.

Landscaping around the NEO buildings next to our London flat is excellent. Given that gardening is inherently fake staging, they do a great job at swapping seasonal plants. Fingers crossed we get the same at Bankside Yards, opposite me and by the same developer. #SE1

Today saw another in a centuries old tradition of holding the Bankside Frost Fair. In attendance was Mr. Londoner himself, expertly guiding his Southwark-based tour.

It’s a public service. If you leave them for long enough they get reclaimed by nature.

If you're in London and looking for a great tasting and very nice Hong Kong noodle place, try Yun Gui Chuan Rice Noodle Bankside.
They're really nice people who all seem to be from there (judging by the language they speak), the food is great and the service too.

The new art installation - is it a naked man made of clay from the bankside of the River Am? Is it? Is it? #thearchers

The Frost Fair is returning this Saturday (31/01/26)

Between 1605 and 1814 the Thames froze over 24 times, allowing locals to take to the ice for frost fairs, rich with markets, food and fun!

Now Bankside has reinvented the Frost Fair for the 21st century...

Today in London’s immoral history: ‘Holland’s Leaguer’, notorious Bankside brothel, resists siege by constables, 1632.
Holland’s Leaguer was a notorious 17th-century brothel which stood, near London’s playhouses, on the south bank of the River Thames. It was run by a famous prostitute named Elizabeth Holland, and i…

They do — although I started to get annoyed with how quickly they got from place to place. Like, you were just in Greenwich at the Cutty Sark, and now you’re in Trafalgar Square on the way to Regent’s Park? And now you’re back on Bankside and you’re going to Wembley via Oxford Circus tube?

I spent two decades working about a mile away from Bankside. It's a part of town I know well. That's probably why. The irony is that the seediness and criminality of the area was that it was legally semi-autonomous because it was under the governance of the church! Southwark Cathedral is next door!

This yellow brain fungus by the bankside of the River Devon this morning was a real eye-catcher. Also known as witches’ butter, according to folklore, if it appeared on the gate or door of a house it meant that a witch had cast a spell on the family living there

Today’s #patchbirding walk rained off. Yesterday was not much better with poor light, but the Hothfield Flood Storage Reservoir lived up to its name & held 2 female Tufted Ducks amongst the many Mallards, Coots & Moorhens. The River Stour was flooding, the bankside trees held a flock of Linnets(c50)

Enjoyed the playbill in Hamnet, showing actual cast names, except for The Ghost being taken by "The Play(wright, presumably...)". Pity that level of attention to detail wasn't paid to the subtitles, with an unnecessary "Mommy" and equally irksome "theater". *harrumphs*

I live between the Rivers Itchen & Test, but I'll pick the Test as it's the one I fell in on 29 Dec 2016, at Mottisfont Abbey, right in front of the children's playground so with a big audience for the time of year. At the visitor centre they said I'm the only adult known to have done this.
