Exciting news today! I can finally share that I wrote a chapter for a wonderful book titled “Digital Accessibility Ethics: Disability Inclusion in All Things Tech.” It will be published on March 26, 2026, and is already available for pre-order.

David O. Taylor (Southern Methodist University - Dedman School of Law) has posted The Canons of Patent Claim Interpretation on SSRN. Here is the abstract: Justice Scalia identified three sets of canons governing the interpretation of legal texts. As for the third set of canons, those "specifically applicable to language in the various types of private documents," Justice Scalia dispensed with considering them, in part because "they have been well covered elsewhere." In this regard, he referenced various restatements of the law and treatises, each related to contracts, insurance policies, or wills.

A SEVENTH AMENDMENT REMEDY FOR HOUSING INSTABILITY Gregory M. Zlotnick* ABSTRACT After the 2023–2024 Supreme Court term, housing advocates despaired over the expected, yet still unwelcome, decision in City of Grants Pass v. Johnson. While focusing on this case is understandable, this Article suggests that scholars, policymakers, and advocates should train their focus on another, perhaps lessexpected case from the previous Supreme Court term: SEC v. Jarkesy. In Jarkesy, the Court affirmed a defendant’s constitutional right to a jury trial in an administrative proceeding that sought to enforce a right similar to one found at common law. The Court’s capacious interpretation of the Seventh Amendment in Jarkesy has implications for state-law matters, like eviction suits, that are more squarely rooted in the common law than the enforcement of federal securities regulations at issue in that case. These implications translate to the broader effort to mitigate housing instability. This Article argues that Jarkesy invites advocates to respond creatively to the ongoing housing affordability and eviction crisis and sets forth a three-part strategy to expand tenants’ rights, reframe public perceptions of eviction trials, and increase democratic participation in the eviction process to serve as a check against the presumptions embedded in summary process.

(Seriously, this baby was so adorable!) They are mostly beige fluff, with a grey-black beak and face. They are framed in a box, edged with wood planks and bones, and an opossum skull mounted sideways on the right. Underneath the vulture, there is an orange box, with green Art Nouveau lettering that says “VULTURE CHICK”. On the left of the lettering are black vulture feathers wound around the bones, and on the right, an opossum ribcage and a vertical black vulture feather closing off the lettering. The background inside the frame is straw yellow ground and grey wall. The vulture chick looks like a tiny T-Rex, and I drew this picture using a picture of one of our black vulture chicks from 2008. A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of the head and body of the bird (named Sussie by the director) who helps the demon Jinu in KPop Demon Hunters, rolling their eyes. The bird is facing left, three yellow eyes looking up and right. The background is deep blue, with some pink light reflecting on the right of the bird (the hat and the neck and back of the bird). The bird is a magpie in traditional Korean lore, so their body has a white circle at the top of their wing with a black ring and a black dot in the center, like a target. Their chest and underside are white (blue in this drawing, because of light reflecting off the feathers), with black dots just under the curve where the black on their neck stops. I am obsessed with this movie. The music is nothing but bangers. A marker, ink, and pain pen interpretation of a fresco with a gryphon in the throne room of the Palace of Knossos, Crete (15thC b.c.e.). My gryphon has a blue bird head with a red beak, and I used blue on the head crest, with gold and white dots as accents. The body is tan, with a wide red, blue, and gold (with white dots) band of abstract decoration on the neck, red wings with gold dots and curls, and gold claws, the front pair more like bird feet, the back like lion feet. The tail is split into a fleur de lys shape (three points) at the tip, to represent a lion tail (the original has a cat tail), and there are decorative gold, red, and blue dots and lines running along the spine and to the end of the tail. The Cretean gryphon does not have wings, but I like wings, and I played with the colours, making the interpretation unique to me, while still (hopefully) keeping to the style of the original. A Fauvist style painting of a black vulture sitting on the roof of our house staring at me. The vulture is facing left, with their body resting flat on the house. The background is orange yellow, the roof is red black, the vulture has a magenta head, a yellow eye with a black pupil, and a blue body. This is based on a photograph I took in 2017. We have black vultures that have nested in our outbuildings for at least 20 years. :)

An extraordinary kaleidoscope of metallic colours, like multiple reflections in a broken mirror—this confusing jumble of repetitive, shimmering, geometric shapes slowly unravels to reveal a complex dynamic scene of human motion and energy. The central figure, a moustached man in a peaked cap, crouches over a pale blue, rotating, grinding wheel. His right hand grips a blue/grey knife, while his left guides the blade forward into contact with the sandstone as his legs pump the grinding wheel into action. Repeatedly overdrawn outlines impart a cinematic sense of movement, mechanical vibration and dynamic rhythm which meld into the dense abstract industrial background as man, machine and manufactory are fused into one giant system. My interpretation of pupils in special settings is that material-to-be-learned is DAFT: disconnected, abstract, fast & transient.
Offering pedagogical solutions that aren't designed to address this is itself a bit daft.
