#OOT’s
Sol Valley feels more like OoT's Hyrule Field if anything

The "Shrines" feel less like BOTW shrines and more like mini-dungeons from that game too but less inspired

In all fairness, I've hacked both games, and OOT's engine & systems are a lot cleaner. But yeah, a lot of if-else nonsense and redundancy too. One example of redundancy is that every enemy and boss in the game copy and pastes the damage table too. Very annoying.

I think effectively establishing the greater Zelda canon by writing Link to the Past and supervising OoT’s script is more important in the grand scheme of things than sticker star being mid

OoT's skulltula sidequest isn't like amazing but I like how you can gather the medallions from the beginning of the game and just go back to the skulltula house to get a reward every now and then

With the poes the only notable reward you get is a bottle with fairy tears in it at 20 poes

I think about Gan’s TotK designer calling Ganondorf a gentle evil and OoT’s director saying ‘NO!! Make him COOL’ all the time. I think complex sympathetic villains who are still actually Villains should be a thing again.

You'd think Tapion was a ripoff of Ocarina of Time's Link, but this film came out in 1995 versus OoT's 98 which begs the question who inspired who or if its just coincidence.

The thing with Shaderglass is that you can use, well, shaders! I just felt like showing off that 240p in general helps with the visual consistency of OoT's prerendered backgrounds, but I do like being able to use shaders as well.

Playing a good game is more than content digestion; you make your own narrative getting lost in a world inside a bottle.

But even with (say) cooldowns, a lot was added on top of OOT's original gameplay, rather than replace it.

What would you have preferred fof the franchise instead?

this thing is 10x worse than oot's... it's worse than the unholy washing machine in mm bc u can follow the colored tubes...

why does the water temple in twilight princess have more backtracking, redundant chests, several floors u can fall thru and water puzzles than all of metroid prime 4

To me, it looks like it took some Zelda inspiration. Beginning looks like the south of Hyrule in BotW with OoT's Death Mountain in the back. Water area looks a little like a mix of OoT's Lake Hylia and Great Bay in Termina with the character moving like Zora Link in the water.

i mean the original intent was probably that ganondorf Hogging Out at the end of OoT lead directly into him always being a hog in ALttP since OoT was conceived as a pseudo-prequel, but then he proceeded to be Some Dude again in OoT's other two sequels and all the other games

And it’s the only one that involves the time traveling mechanic, too. I am rather lukewarm towards OoT’s dungeons but I genuinely love that temple.

It is still good and there's some great art in there! (and a neat bonus in OoT's case)

It just makes me even more curious about the TP one as this is a multi-volume adaptation. But I should replay the game first! 😄

this idea's from old games have unprotected RAM that's still accessible through common ingame inputs that could be re-written as a magic ritual from the perspective of the ingame characters.
You can change OOT's inventory into other items, or even teleport, but you still cant change the end.

An Ocarina of Time romhack worth keeping an eye on is Zelda: Indigo which looks to be releasing this year. It's basically an entirely new Zelda game using OOT's engine. Completely new bosses, dungeons, mechanics, the works. Looks really ambitious and cool.

All done 🥲. I think OoT's dropped down my Zelda list a bit, but still a lot of love for it.

It's hard to pick favourites.

I always really liked OoT's Zelda. She's got a nifty design. Her big stupid hat made me laugh as a kid lol

Still, the flaws don't take away from OoT's importance by a long shot but the nostalgia goggles are so tight whenever people talk about OoT. Glad you had a good time and happy to see someone experiencing it fresh for the first time. It was a fun read, thank you for posting through your experiences!

#103 Dragon Ball Z Wrath of the Dragon

Tapion is really fucking cool and since Piccolo isnt in this one he gets to aurafarm the entire movie
Floored that Tapion predates OoT's Link
Vegeta appears in one scene, gets bodied and says he's a fool, he's the biggest cuck on these movies, its funny

Astounding how much of this feels like a game that fell out of a time portal from 20 years ago (Wind Waker, specifically - a bunch of half-finished stuff duct-taped together, with a largely empty knockoff of OoT’s Hyrule Field and capped with needless fetch quest padding.)
i don't regret buying it, because i even annoyed i enjoyed playing most of it, but it is very much an unfinished, badly designed game. Four major areas, all of them vaguely copy and paste, plus two irritating required fetch quests, plus forced backtracking, plus a deep sense of emptiness.

The DT games are after OoT, as confirmed in interviews around OoT's release, saying that OoT deals with the backstory of ALttP. The Wild Era is long after every other game in the series. Hope this helps!

A neat shortcut you can do in OoT’s Water Temple. #LegendOfZelda #OcarinaOfTime #Nintendo
