Ja. Der jüngere blieb bei der Mutter, den älteren haben sie per Kindertransport nach UK geschickt. Seine Pflegemutter war eine Freundin und Tochter eines schwed. Diplomaten. Er zog dann mit ihnen nach Schweden.

At only 10 years old, in May 1938, Bronia Snow came to London on the Kindertransport from Czechoslovakia.

Bronia survived. She celebrates her 99th birthday this year.

I can't shake this, so I've got to say it. Kindertransport saved lives but was complicit in genocide bc the people it saved were rarely reunited with their families (or more importantly, culture). It's not black and white, but can we please acknowledge that it's not the paragon to aspire to?

How long before we, in the UK, need to set up kindertransport for the children of journalists in the USA?
We evacuated our kids out of Minneapolis this weekend and my spouse reports that as she drove them out of town she saw "multiple freeway exits where people are being pulled over." It feels like the Twin Cities is being subjugated by a hostile occupying force.

Indeed.

The people who hid Anne Frank were breaking the law! The people who operated the kindertransport, saving thousands of Jewish children from the Nazis were breaking the law! Oskar Schindler was breaking the law!

I arranged a visit for Judi Benton, a holocaust survivor, to talk to the first class that I taught. An extraordinary story of quick-thinking and bravery by a youngster after both her parents had been arrested. She disguised herself as a nurse and joined a kindertransport train.
I grew up exposed to so many survivors and now I realize I have to get off my ass to make sure my daughter meets one (1).
LONDON (AP) — Auschwitz survivor Eva Schloss, the stepsister of teenage diarist Anne Frank and a tireless educator about the horrors of the Holocaust, has died. She was 96.

Bit of personal trivia. Anthony Gottleib, @davidedmonds100.bsky.social and me are all sons of fathers who came to the UK as children on the Kindertransport fleeing from the Nazis, and we all write about philosophy in ways that try to reach a broader public.

I immediately understood the meaning of the four people at once, but I hadn’t known about the Kindertransport. What a stark warning to us in the midst of division and intolerance.
