Lidt samme historie som "Ombudsmand". Også en dansk opfindelse. Viser også hvor stor en opdagelse Ertebølle var og er.

It's not an aggressive hand gesture sent from the distant past, but rather a comb with broken-off teeth from the eponymous Ertebølle shell midden.
Neergaard (1900) found the object itself to be 'probably the most charming of all the [Ertebølle] combs', but he is super underwhelmed by its decoration

Scalping independently developed in various cultures in both the Old and New Worlds.

Several human remains from the stone-age Ertebølle culture in Denmark show evidence of scalping.

Scalping in the Americas predominantly arose from the practices of Native American tribes.

Fishing During the Late Mesolithic in Northern Europe: An Experimental Approach to the Use of Bone Fishhooks and Gorges in the Ertebølle Culture
Single-piece bone fishhooks and gorges have been recovered archaeologically from several coastal settlements from the Late Mesolithic Ertebølle culture (5400–4000 cal BCE) in northern Europe. Howev...

Went for a walk around Ertebolle Hoved, a clay cliff with layers of volcanic Ash running through it. The cliff was formed by the ice sheet pushing across the sea bed, in the last ice age.

We visited Moesgaard Museum yesterday and it was fantastic!
I had never seen an amber axe and look at the size if the gigantic Funnel Beaker vessel where you could watch a short animated film!

Doing a lidar survey of the Ertebølle kitchen midden at Mejlgård today. These primroses are growing preferentially on the midden. Anyone know why? 🏺

I have made Ertebølle pieces, but it can be quite difficult to get enough info. If you have pieces in mind I could have a look.

Do you, or would you maybe consider, Ertebolle style pots?

First pummeled by a wild boar, later killed and dismembered. The #Ertebølle man from Grave 13 at Skateholm had a rough life.

Perhaps it would have been a comfort for him to know that, ~7000 years later, archaeologists would make a comically morbid cartoon out of it 🏺

Revelations from a specialized seasonal site of transverse arrow production. Ertebølle culture at its best! #mesolithic #Ertebølle #archaeology #Denmark 🏺

A relatively small number of early wood fishweirs have been found in archaeological records across the geographical and chronological span of the European context. Thankfully, we do have a number of later medieval and post-medieval traps.

Little tips of beauty! A small transverse from a middle/late ertebølle site with plenty of evidence of continued transverse production at a summer camp at the edge of water with plenty of uprooted ancient trees. More to follow #archaelogy #mesolithic #denmark #ertebølle🏺

Den fætter her?

Mullerup holds a very dear place in my heart as it was the site that formed the basis of my BA thesis back in 2013. And it holds a very special place in Danish archaeology as it was the first site that was (eventually) recognized as being earlier than the Ertebølle kitchenmidden.

Though I am a field archaeologist, with several years of field experience, ATM I'm doing a project where I clean and register lithics (late Mesolithic, Ertebølle), from excavations dug way before I was born 👶

... Due to the collection being attacked by mould (thank you, storage from last century)

Monday morning lithics (and coffee, ofc)🤌
