I've slowly been reformatting notes from my population and conservation genetics course at Montana State University into a web book—a rough draft is now live here: elinck.org/popgen_conge...

Every once in a while, you gotta ask yourself: “Are you a piss tank half full or piss tank half empty kind of person?”
The piss tank on the ISS is now 50% full.

This. This. This.

Ancient DNA is a finite and precious resource and every single time we sample a bone, tooth or petrous we loose sample material and damage unique, cultural heritage objects. There are so many excellent published palaeogenomes out there that can still give us new data.
I hope that other researchers will now go back through their ancient genomes and find more carriers of integrated HHV6 viruses, as this is the first peek at an exciting global story.

1970’erne har ringet, de vil gerne have deres CIA-aktioner tilbage.

Two unusual things on the mountain this morning: a skein of geese flying south (late) and a whole flock of ewes have lambed (early).

Nyt studie: Tørke smadrede fortidsminder på to måneder

One of Sweden’s most delicious exports, Jansson’s temptation, otherwise known as Janssons frestelse, is a creamy potato casserole with melty onions and umami-packed tinned sprats.

Yesterday, at 04:55am my wife gave birth to our second son. At 4230g and 55cm, Walther, is the exact same size as his big brother, Eske, when he was born almost four years ago.

That’s all, folks.
