So it turns out Ye Olde Magical UK is also from centuries of Orientalism!

What little the english and so on knew of the East brought back by centuries ago crusaders, Finnish Sami shamans, Indian shapeshifting fairy, Chinese costumes in Elizabethean Oberon and Titania etc.

William Shakespeare's orientalist approach to magic has a casual mention of "Lappland sorcerers" (Finnish Sami native people) in Comedy of Errors.

Midsummer Night's Dream has fairy queen Titania and king Oberon fighting for custody of an Indian boy who can shapeshift, called a changeling.

Hi, I appreciate the preciseness of your alt-text (about as much as I appreciate Peanut's Elizabethean ruff, which is a lot 😍)

Bizarre that you would compare Elizabethean literature's impact on a population to today's culture manufacturing industry's impact on youth. Did the Queen have psyops think tanks too?

Shakespeare's troupe also employed child actors, therefore there could not possibly have been any scandal involving child actors in the Elizabethean era. The child actors in Shakespeare's troupe were no different than those who were mocking the adult actors, they were exactly the same.

Elites bombard us with individualist ideology that ignores the reasons why many are hungry: disability, mental health issues, low wages, unemployment, and above all, the lie that suggests that profit-seeking market forces are just. From the Elizabethean Poor Law to today, it's been much the same.

I take it the opposite.
If your name is Elizabeth, the story is named The Elizabethean

They even called it for a time 'The Age of Anxiety' - a term up there with 'New Elizabethean' for capturing a lost modernity of the period.

transparent. You also can't help but notice the clothes, some of which are simmilar to what you might have worn to a comic con or rennassance fare. Starting with the person speaking in a suit and top hat, going through eleborate Elizabethean, to knights armour, and roman togas

Also, something someone says when honored in a Shakespeare play: "I will study deserving." I have no idea what it means in Elizabethean English, but I read it as "I will try to become someone who deserves this."

Don't you have an Elizabethean blood cult story to write before you start a Borgesian SciFi satire?

206: Maelstrom. A surprisingly good and innovative British RPG, including one of the earliest examples of an improvised, 'coincidental' magic system of the kind later used in Mage, issued in a fat paperback by Penguin in the 1980s. Great Elizabethean quasi-realistic setting + tons of careers.

OK, Ashland, you’re a little warm for my tastes (used to foggy north SF Peninsula summers), but I’m liking you so far. About to see “Into the Woods” at #OSF. Yes, it’s Sondheim, not Shakespeare.

"chatgpt, write a right wing piece and pepper it with Elizabethean language"

That'll be £10k earned.

the flea which basicalky rekies on sucks reads like fucks with a long elizabethean F or the one when he uses the invetiability of death to try and get his missus knickers off - ‘if we had world enough and time, this tardyness would be no crime’ - absolute smut

Anything by Mary Renault set in Ancient Greece. And Patricia Finney has 2 series set in the Elizabethean age: one about Robert Carey, the Queen's nephew (a real person),& another about a woman who works as a lawyer while disguised as a man.

I saw a production that had a circle of Elizabethean audience around the stage (in the round) so we started off with a bit of a laugh track for the jewbaiting. It was an interesting attempt to cope with the play, but Shakespeare left us a mess.

The Time Traveller's Guide to Elizabethean England by Ian Mortimer

David Copperfield by Charles Dickens (Reading concurrently with other things. I'm enjoying it though.)

A neat Elizabethean legal record (a final concord) made in the 'court of the lady Queen' or Queen's Bench at Westminster before the justices James Dyer, Roger Manwood, and Robert Mounson relating to properties in Shropshire and the city of London from 1577 at the @nlireland.bsky.social
