Elsewhere, Smokey investigates the link between cats and witches and Cev discovers an English village that might be even lovelier than Doncaster...

Calling transphobia a 'gateway drug' to the far right undersells it. It's pure accelerant. Grimly fascinating to guess what crankery becomes any famous transphobe's secondary obsession, cos they all have one: 15 minute cities are fascism! Grok noncing is cool! ICE are good! We should kill all dogs!

oh course now i am now thinking of running a 300 years after post apocalyptic game
1) Delightfully, I now have my own copy of Henry's Quest, Graham Oakley's 1986 post-apocalypse story for children. And It is quite the thing - some of the imagery is just incredible in its depictions of a Britain overgrown.

Capitalist monopolies shut down the butchers, green grocers, and hardware stores to enrich shareholders.

Neoliberal governments and austerity defunded councils shut down the libraries, play areas, doctors and public transport to enrich wealth donors.

If reversing that is communist… sounds good. 🫡
Anybody who lived in a village or town in the 60s or 70s (before the onset of out of town shopping centres) lived 15 min away from anything.
For me, school, shops, cinema, church, sports centre, garages.

I think at this point the UK has accepted Paddington as the Death Bear, collector of souls. So, I think as a nation we should start smearing marmalade on the eyes of the dead and whisper “fare for the crossing”. It’ll feel weird now but, in three of four generations, no one will question it.

Excellent article!
