These theologians will pretzel themselves to “prove” whatever opinion they have, such as complementarianism, dress codes for women, support for far-right ideology and candidates, etc. It would be amusing if if weren’t so tragic.

So many crucial voices & aspects are missing from this, including egalitarian theologians, historians etc., many who can educate about the history & rise of complementarianism & influence w/Southern Baptist Convention/🇺🇲 politics. And EPIDEMICS of abuse. @usnews.com

It’s the new —well, post-60s new-ish— “separate but equal” aka “complementarianism” the softer rebrand of “patriarchy”

"Complementarianism was always a sham.

Al Mohler loves taking on #feministtheology, this time reflects on the death of Phyliss Trible, really her texts of terror and that she was another feminist foe who was on a slippery slope. approx 3:30 #feministtheology

My new post analyzes proof from many sources and studies to show the link between complementarianism and both abuse and infidelity. "Why he cheats, beats, or mistreats often correlates with his theology"

i think everyone who's developing the kind of hypertrophied pseudo-secular complementarianism thats leading them to propose "sex-segregated workplaces" should, and i mean this very seriously, be sentenced to a kind of "first grade for adults" where they re-learn how to handle the existence of gender

and has since gone on to do a whole lot of writing about complementarianism-by-another-name

Like rebranding patriarchy as complementarianism because women's subservient role still has value

“Complementarianism is a really sweet deal for some men:
it gives them permission to say they value and honor women,
while ensuring they never actually have to treat us as equals.” – Joy LaPrade

In her new memoir, “Awake,” Hatmaker chronicles the ways purity culture, complementarianism and ministry zeal both choked and fueled her fledgling marriage.

"In my mind, I was automatically never going to be a godly man’s choice because I lived with a rare disease and chronic illnesses. A wife + mother were treated as the only available roles for female adherence to the will of God."

And those parts are the exclusionary texts that control freaks latch onto to create hierarchies, and to build unbiblical dogmas, including chattel slavery, genocide, and complementarianism

Complementarianism insists men and women are equal in value but unequal in "role and authority." This is doublespeak for "They are not equal." And the idea that “It’s not about ability, it’s about responsibility” fails on scriptural and logical grounds. I talk about it in my brand new post:

the idea that there is a "women's knowledge" that is distinct from "men's knowledge" is either a) an attempt to address structural sexism dressed up in an attempt to be non-threatening or b) repackaged complementarianism

From the Orthodox Barbie archives:

“I have no doubt that both men and women experience the call to ministry equally. However, in the past, when women have experienced a calling, it was often disregarded for the sake of complementarianism.

Patriarchy is far right. Complementarianism is middle right. Still oppressive, still abusive.

Feminism is the MIDDLE. It's literally asking for EQUALITY.

The far left would be oppressive matriarchy or something. Nothing near what we're asking for.

We don't want to settle for "still oppressive".

... And so the message of liberation never made it to women like me. Many of us, evangelical millennials, grew up instead with purity culture, complementarianism, and toxic teachings about gender hierarchy in marriage. Some of us are finding our way out of these systems,
