In a normal society, anyone wearing a shirt that even jokingly gave a pass to pedophilia would be excoriated or even assaulted so I wasn't ready to jump on it without hard evidence.

Theory: one of the things that makes Newsom a major frontrunner is also his biggest weakness. The right has been scared of a Newsom presidential run for years and (kinda like Hilary Clinton) has therefore been building him up as a major Fox Cinematic Universe boogieman
Agreed, I don’t personally think he’ll do well and don’t plan to to support his candidacy but it’s delusion for people (almost exclusively on this site ime) to pretend that the contender with probably the highest national name recognition is not *a* front-runner

this is so cart-before-horse to me. i don't accept that people's attention spans are shorter in a way that has to matter. the problem is that we keep thinking that and "complying in advance" with the imagined boogieman of "people not paying attention nowadays". nothing done in that direction helps
