Gibson CF-100E
While guitars and guitar-like instruments have had cutaways since at least the 1500s, the first flat-top acoustic guitar with a cutaway wasn't made until 1950, when Gibson introduced the CF-100. (Based on Gibson's usual clever naming scheme, I'm assuming CF stands for Cutaway Flat-top and it originally sold for 100 bucks.) It's got a small body, a sunburst finish, and a Florentine (pointy) cutaway. The version in the picture is a CF-100E. It's got the same electronics setup as the more famous J-160E, with a modified P-90 right next to the neck, one volume, and one tone control.

Oh man, this is a bummer (the company went out of business; Sir Paul is fine).
It is very sad to see Höfner go out of business. They have been making instruments for over 100 years, and I bought my first Höfner bass in the sixties. I have loved it ever since. It’s a wonderful instrument to play: lightweight, and it encourages me to play quite freely. It also offers pleasing variations in tone that I enjoy. This year was a tough one, and comic wise, a lot of my ol' reliable picks just weren't doing it for me. But the one comic I found myself looking forward to and reading every time a new issue came out was the Avengers Academy Infinity Comic. This was a book that was created with love in every page - for the characters, the story, and for comics itself. Avengers Academy was a reminder that superhero comics can still have strong character development wrapped in that heartwarming, light package that you would find in those 100-plus, issue long-running series as a kid. When the book wants to pull at your heartstrings, it does, and when the book wants to take a more humorous tone, it does, balancing both in a short, infinity comic format masterfully. Clearly this year brought a lot of challenges to the queer community, and being able to read these characters in this setting (celebrating queer joy and togetherness) felt like the warm hug I needed, and it's one I'll miss getting since the series ended. I hope Oliveira and the artists who helped bring this comic to life can get these characters again someday, because they've all become so near and dear to my heart. I won't miss a lot about 2025, but I will miss the friends I met at Avengers Academy.

Silvertone 1442 electric bass 1 pickup made in USA circa 1967 brownburst. This 1967 Silvertone, made by Danelectro of Neptune, New Jersey, is a maple veneered solid body, single pickup electric bass guitar. It is one of the last Danelectro-made Silvertone basses or six-string guitars offered before Danelectro went out of business. It has one lipstick tube pickup, a four-way adjustable, chrome plated brass bridge with metal cover, and a brown burst finish. It also features a rosewood finger rest, a volume knob, a tone knob, a metal three-way switch and an input jack all mounted on a white, two-ply, masonite pickguard. This bass guitar is 100% original and includes the original, hard-shell case. Both the guitar and case are in good condition. The neck is straight and all the electronics work properly. With its medium-fast action, this bass plays and sounds like a dream. It has a consistent solid sound and feel all throughout the neck. Both collectors and players will appreciate this bass guitar. They are worn and dirty, with filth encrusting their lower legs up to the knees.

Something of a different tone this week. Having enjoyed Poul Anderson’s 1957 novelette ‘Call Me Joe’ earlier this year (& bolstered by this book’s inclusion in Pringle’s ‘100 Best SF novels’ listing) I’ve embarked on this Hugo nominated slice of ‘Hard SF’ from 1970.
At 180-odd pages a slim read too…

Absolute freedom, but it didn't like starting in the cold. Saw the mechanic so often I ended up dating him. 😂

Despite my overall sleepiness, I have managed to do some crafting!
A small skull doily I started the day a friend died, and didn’t know until the next day, is finally off the hook. Next up: starching and blocking! I think my dearly departed friend would be amused by both the pattern and the timing, were she aware of either. This is my first doily, and I’m not sure yet if I will gift it to her mother (who would also love it) or keep it as a first. The background is a green corduroy couch, and the pattern consists of 8 skulls, framed, around a central daisy. It was from a YouTube tutorial, found here: https://youtu.be/8jjjR9A_AGw?si=xoqAxXdaiURA4GF4 I learned that I like how picots and variations of picots look, but actually working them is super annoying! Two bobbins of white wool yarn on a weaving spool rack, in front of a bookshelf. There is a grand total of 100 g of mystery wool between the two bobbins. The top is 2-ply, with the first bobbin of 50 g as the base, and the bottom is the rest of the second 50 g after plying with the first, and is chain plyed. I’m not really a fan of chain plying, except it’s super useful for bits like this. I had only one break in one of the singles while plying the first bobbin, which is an improvement over previous attempts! I think I repaired the break decently (we’ll see, I might end up taking a needle and sewing thread to it, to lash and secure it in place). I’m not using it for weaving yet, but that’s what I’m working up to, so I’m working on strong joins and no breaks in the singles. This is the first of three warp bundles for the gamp name draft placemats project, done in 5/2 perle cotton with twill as the base pattern. The colors are purple passion and wine tone and the weft will be grotto and deep lavender, all from Astra brand through the Yarn Barn. I’m really excited to see how the color and pattern gamp will work up! I tried to buy local, but I couldn’t find all the purples I was looking for locally, and when I needed bobbins as well, it just made sense to do it as one order and get the bulk discount.

I know that is impossible to make a 100% true adaptation of Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow since that whole comic has a particular tone but if at least they keep some of the essence in the movie I am happy with it.

I'd have loved to see True Grit in space with Supergirl tho...

This is a Wild Thing reissue, six string electric guitar made by Danelectro in China in 2011 with a black, high-gloss finish and white Tolex binding. This guitar is 100% original and is basically new-old stock. This is a rare, limited edition guitar. It is a double cutaway, masonite top and bottom with a plywood frame. The original version of the Wild Thing was a one-off and never in production at Danelectro. The pickups and electronics are the classic Danelectro style with stacked tone and volume controls for each pickup with a three-way toggle switch to choose between neck, bridge or both pickups. In the middle position the pickups are louder and act like humbuckers. This model was a limited run and has unique pickups and tone. They’re strong and bright single coils with a chrome finish. And, these single-coils are considerably more clean sounding than most. The classic Danelectro-style bridge is adjustable for height and intonation. It comes with the original Danelectro gig bag, warranty card, hang tag, original brochure, and wrench to adjust the neck (the adjustment must be under the nut or in the neck-pocket since it’s not visible on the body.) Got Shinobi Art of Vengeance on PS4 (via sale) and it was a blast. Perfect difficulty, a perfect tone and atmosphere, and so many fun challenges. I think I'm gonna try 100% 'ing it, I had that much fun. Don't need a PS5 just yet with the games I can still nab on this thing!

There's light and humor, but there's also frequent, very descriptive dark elements that you should beware. This series really needs to be read in order. The storyline builds with every book and references to earlier ones are often. Also, this is more HFN than HEA, with the door being left open for spinoff series. I listened to the book before reading along with the audio. The narrators, Sean Masters, Ryan Lee Dunlap, and Kallestra / Kalestra Spencer (I cannot definitively confirm which spelling is correct, and it's driving me crazy), continue to do a great job with this series. 🎧🩷🎧 Story: 5 stars Narration: 4.5 stars Listening Speed: 1.8x
