Gaza. My friend, Nabil, in Gaza is increasingly desperate, his messages filled with anguish. He’s lost hope. I don’t know how to reply/ what to say. The West looks away as their “ally”, the ME’s only so-called “democracy” commits war crimes every day. Our leaders are complicit/blood on their hands.

The idea of 'the fair go' and a deep anti-elitism are both pretty embedded in the Australian ethos - even our 'Tories' have to appear to honour these things. So Albo's rhetoric is not directly transferrable. But surely a version of this is the only viable way for Labour to move forward right now?
Could British Labour learn from how its Australian allies saw off the right and got re-elected in tough times? Marc Stears @mds49.bsky.social sees in the social patriotism of Anthony Albanese a bridging story and agenda that Keir Starmer could emulate here

The idea of 'the fair go' and a deep anti-elitism are both pretty embedded in the Australian ethos - even our 'Tories' have to appear to honour these things. So Albo's rhetoric is not directly transferrable. But surely a version of this is the only viable way for Labour to move forward right now?

One way to think about it is that Trump/DOGE is not just hurting science in the US, but hurting science globally. Science will still continue, of course, but on a much smaller scale, with the US becoming less impt. The pace of global innovation will decline.
