At ~4:30am Thursday my dog suffered what I can only assume was a stroke. We woke up to her trying to get up unable to stand on her own. She’s 14, I was prepared for this to be the end…
Almost had to put my dog down, then lost a job that was making me miserable. A real silver linings kind of day.

I have a wealth of criticism for education and secondary education and the ways we've turned learning into a childhood checklist, but I will die on the hill that every single person needs to learn how to close read a text and shouldn't be allowed into any kind of adult discourse without that skill.

Restaurateurs in Seattle threatened to shut down or never open new ones when a large minimum wage hike was mooted in Seattle. ALL OF THEM STAYED OR EXPANDED. More income meant more spending meant better restaurant bottom lines.

Went and saw Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein today. Thought it was pretty great. The only movie that has ever really done the story any sort of justice.

Agreed on all fronts.
Please join me in celebrating the 20th anniversary of DOOM (2005) theatrical release; a perfectly calibrated piece of idiot cinema starring space marine Karl Urban and easily the best performance of The Rock's career.

Been watching all the Star Trek shows from TOS on and while it doesn’t have the singular cast, DS9 is truly the platonic ideal series. 100% what Star Trek is supposed to be 100% of the time.

Looks like the fix is in ahead of today’s CSAC meeting.

Just did enough ‘stakeholder meetings’ behind closed doors to take the position they wanted to from the get go.

‘We’ve heard both sides’.

Public criticism be damned.
