Sending out my once-monthly...whatever these are called to say Oracle is a terrible character and acting like she is in any way good representation is deeply insulting.

To be clear:
- Barbara Gordon = 🏔
- Batgirl = 🏔
- Oracle = Grand Canyon

A few years ago, I thought the term “Cold Civil War” was hyperbolic, but when red states are literally sending sending armed military forces to occupy blue areas for the purpose of threatening coercive violence, idk what else to call it.

Power Fantasy is a frustrating book to read because Etienne is clearly just objectively correct and yet the narrative and every character keeps acting like he's wrong.

Once again, my fellow nerds, I am begging you to remember that giving into bullies only guarantees they'll be back.

You've got to punch Biff Tannen in the face, McFly, or he'll rule over you forever.
LA Times: "'It backfired,' said one senior administrator at UCLA, reflecting the sense of whiplash. .... 'Within hours of announcing our settlement, the DOJ was on our back.'

Apropos of nothing:

The Unsanity Collective in DC comics is a suicide cult that engages in light terrorism and it is comically absurd Tynion had Batman work with them instead of giving them an express pass to Black gate.

Maybe that's why they're called that, knowledge of them drives you insane.

Not even seven months - six. After 186 days, one of America's leading universities and two of its most prestigious news outlets have already capitulated. And Trump's henchmen are just starting to wield the full powers of the federal government.

the President as elected dictator is, I hope we all understand, a totally untenable situation that will lead to a catastrophic political and economic crash sooner rather than later.
it’s neat how the US has these late stage autocratic features (the president can unilaterally spend/block spending, censor individual companies, take over universities, wage war, etc) but also there is no clear path to him staying in power past his term. basically an elected dictatorship
“Before the second Trump era, it would’ve been seen as a ridiculous violation of the First Amendment to have some kind of monitor making sure the media was being nice to the president.”

DC statehood is non-negotiable
NEWS: A proposed Republican spending bill includes a number of provisions impacting D.C. laws and programs. The bill would:
- Repeal D.C.'s assisted suicide law.
- Prohibit D.C. from using traffic cameras, or to ban rights turns on red.
- Repeal non-citizen voting in D.C.

Stipulating AI has any real utility, why should workers actually embrace a tool pitched as intended to drive them into obsolescence?

Because its creators say: "this is designed to replace programmers, writers, artists, etc" which to me is a red flag and a symbol it should be smothered in infancy.

Extremely cool national injunctions aren't a thing anymore.
The White House has ordered the US Dept. of Justice to prioritize denaturalization: voiding the citizenship of US citizens.

Who will it denaturalize? "Any" case that it "determines to be sufficiently important".

Point 10 leaves the criteria opaque and arbitrary.

I had a strong preference for proceeding immediately to a more stable reform but today has changed my mind.

The court has come against the plain text of the constitution. The constitution must stand and the court must fall.

Pack the court.

one of the projects of the court is to expand the ability of states to pursue reactionary ends and constrain the ability of the federal government to set minimum standards *or* of democratic-led states to expand upon existing rights
🚨By a 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court ALLOWS states to defund Planned Parenthood, holding that Medicaid does not give patients a right to obtain care from its providers. All three liberals dissent. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

[whispers provocatively] the 1850 fugitive slave act is the model: reactionaries have the right to extend their authority across state lines, and their opponents have to actively assist them

This Supreme Court doesn’t just want to take us back to 2019.

They don’t just want to take us back before 1965.

They don’t just want to take us back before 1860.

They want to take us back before 1776.

We’re not going back.

I really do think this might be the worst Supreme Court of all time, which is saying something for an institution that coexisted with slavery

These motherfuckers are even worse imo bc they are *also* out here using antebellum reasoning and pursuing antebellum goals but well post bellum!

SCOTUS killed birthright citizenship. I know people will *say* they didn't but a right you can't enforce without dropping 7 figures in legal fees if the government even deigns to allow you to sue before they send their masked goons to take you to a black site is not actually a "right".

This is the line from the horrific SCOTUS decision today that will stick with me. “Sure, the president should follow the law - but the courts can’t force him to do it.” Rendering the Constitution a dead letter if the president decides he’d rather not deal with it.

The problem is this: THERE ARE MEN IN THE WORLD WHO DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE LAW.

Who gain power BECAUSE they break the law.

And our Supreme Court, our media, and our Congress will not acknowledge these men exist, we need protections from them, and Trump is one of them.

Sorry, did SCOTUS end the practice of nationwide injunctions today? And honestly just preliminary injunctions based on single cases without class action entirely?

They will be very sorry they did that.
