The Epstein stuff is just the most obvious manifestation of the rot. It runs throughout our system now.

Any 2028 presidential hopeful who doesn't have a plan to address this maldistribution of wealth and power doesn't deserve a second of anyone's time or attention.

Pro tip for responding to the knuckleheads who want means testing for school meals: all kids rich and poor get the following things free in most public schools: teachers & staff; shelter; utilities; transportation; health care/guidance; materials & books; gyms, labs, other facilities. But not food?

Watched the halftime show. I guess where I fundamentally depart from MAGA is that, when I see something like this, celebrating a culture that's not quite mine, with some references I don't get, something that's not For Me ... I *like* it. I like seeing inside other worlds. Why wouldn't you?

New piece from @jaredb-econ.bsky.social and me showing how the fiscal situation has deteriorated under Trump.

Jared and I are two notable fiscal doves. We explain why doves should reexamine some of our priors.

Crucially, we *must not* cut crucial services when looking at course correction.

President Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ Raises the Fiscal Gap to 2.4 Percent
A combination of higher deficits, higher interest rates, and lower growth has left the United States with a significantly worse fiscal outlook.

Bluesky: You’ve told us everything we need to know about you by your silence on otters
Bluesky: Squirrels getting in bird feeders is a problem

Me: Why don't we give squirrels bird food vouchers

B: That won't work

M: Wouldn't it be funny if you could give vouchers to squirrels

B: You’re so dumb

M: The following is sarcasm: Give them vouchers

I think it is OUTRAGEOUS that people are LEAPING to the conclusion that some our post prominent Americans are child rapists when it is EQUALLY PLAUSIBLE that they are simply indifferent to whether other people are child rapists so long as those other people can offer them access to power.

New from me: It is not just that the US is experiencing democratic backsliding. Authoritarianism has emerged more quickly than in other benchmark countries.

This isn't mine, and I can't definitively find the original source. But I love this little bit of wisdom:

"If you're a fifteen-minute walk from a coffee shop, but the server there has to drive an hour to get to work, you don't live in a walkable city. You live in a theme park."
For all the fearmongering about capital flight from New York City, there’s an exodus few want to talk about: working people.

Sky-high rents and outrageous child care costs are already pushing families out of the city they keep running.

That’s what we have to change.
