It is kind of funny how much American democracy in the 20th century was supported by the fact that everyone bought newspapers as a matter of necessity even if they didn't care about the news, they wanted sports/classifieds, and once you remove that journalism just collapsed as a profession.

To me the arts do feel a little stagnant and academic right now, and I do wonder if the demystification of how various forms of art are made, the professionalization of the artist and the fact that there is a subreddit and tutorial for everything has stifled certain kinds of creativity.
