So recently a friend of mine sent me the following photo and suggested it was a great idea. I mean, who wouldn't want a tree rex?

I agree, but I had some other ideas as well.

I will not apologize for what is to come next.
Drive-By Truckers with Jason Isbell on Colbert tonight. I really expected them to play one of Jason's songs from Decoration Day, but it is great to hear him with the band again.

Really, the most surprising thing to me is seeing Brad with a cleaned-up beard.

In case it comes up...

Today (Dec 1) is the first day of meteorological winter.

Why?

December, January, & February are the 3 coldest calendar months of the year.

Frankly, it makes record keeping easier.

Astronomical (classic) winter starts Sunday, Dec 21 at the moment of the winter solstice.

As much as I want it to become 20-1, the way this first quarter is going doesn't give me much confidence.

I stopped trying to travel long distance to see family for Thanksgiving. I choose to spend it with my local "family" (the friends that I spend time with on a regular basis), or taking time to travel for myself. My T'giving week road trip to Santa Fe a couple years ago was one of my favorites.
Actually in the spirit of this conversation, what’s a decision you made about a past Thanksgiving holiday that really paid off? I think people often feel trapped by their lives. Sharing our experiences can liberate us from that sense of claustrophobia.
On the most recent episode of VIBE CHECK, we answer listener questions about Thanksgiving, most importantly “do you go celebrate with the family members you don’t even like?”

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of career reflection, and it’s been rough. It feels like the GIS and mapping world has blown past me. The tech moves faster than I can keep up with, and half the time I forget things I should already know.

Others posted about this as it happened, but I mentally wrote it off at the time as likely bad data.

I was wrong, and that is incredible.
Hurricane Melissa produced the fastest hurricane winds to be recorded by a dropsonde, verified by reviewing data at NSF NCAR! Hurricane Melissa’s 252 mph wind gust surpassed the previous record from Typhoon Megi over the Western Pacific in 2010, where a dropsonde measured wind gusts of 248 mph.

Oh, lovely.
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

Can someone tell MSNBC that if they're going to have someone looking at a map and talking about Virginia election results, they need to have someone that understands that Virginia has independent cities?

Hearing their big board guy say "Alexandria County" might be worse than ESPN and "Vah Tech."

Oh, joy, ICE recruitment commercials on The CW during the Louisville-Virginia Tech game again. They haven't been as frequent this time (this is the first one I noticed), but it still makes me feel so gross to see them.

The highs in my life are absolutely wonderful, but the number of days I have to wade through to experience them gets exhausting.

The medications make them tolerable, but I am so, so tired. As I'm looking around and watching where I live become this awful hellscape...it's hard to want to keep going.
