Hurricane #Melissa nearly perfectly symmetrical this morning. Just a buzz saw of thunderstorms around that eye. Nature creating a humantarian crisis. #Jamaica

Scooplet: The NWS office in Boston is now down to just seven meteorologists, four fewer than are needed to run it around the clock with even minimal staffing.

These seven meteorologists will now need to perform the duties of multiple staff members at once.

Just a little breezy here today. I don't know how we didn't have more than a couple brief power flickers (so far, it's still howling out there).
Widespread gusts of 50-70mph were seen today across New England (though the bulk of strongest winds were across Massachusetts). Power outages as of 8pm sit as 21,000 region-wide. The number has been very slowy dropping for several hours. #MAwx #CTwx #RIwx #NHwx #MEwx #VTWx

It is not an exaggeration to say that lives are at stake here. Severe weather season is rapidly approaching. Fewer personnel can and will lead to a lack of awareness of all kinds of weather hazards. Tornadoes. Floods. Winter storms. All of it.
Shared with my by an NWS Meteorologist:
NWS is potentially in trouble. We are struggling to get our public safety exemption approved from higher ups in the government. Without the exemption, we could face steep cuts. 1/2

I don't wear much pink/red/hearts, so didn't think I'd have anything to show for this week's #showmeyourknits. But then I remembered this wonderful dusty pink hat I made a couple years back. I bought a pompom for it, but decided I like it better without.
