So did I.

And yes.
I grew up under a military dictatorship in the 90s and the refrain was always the same: you have to comply because "they can shoot you and nothing will happen". Some of the things I'm seeing on the news and timeline are looking very reminiscent of those bad times.

Folks, don't listen to the folks that tell you AI will take away your busywork.

Busywork performs a function. While you're doing it, background processes are still working on more complex problems.

You may find yourself 'miraculously' able to solve a knotty problem after some busywork.

Despite what looks like increasing global division, I'm still seeing cooperation to resist the worst of our nature. I still believe equity, togetherness and unity will save us.

So many people recommended Severance to me that I was sure i would like it. 5 episodes in and I'm surprised to find that I do not. I like things about it (the acting, the cinematography) But I hate the "mystery box"-style plot and the lack of narrative focus. It just isn't for me.

By chance, I just finished reading @wtalabi.bsky.social's "Descent" in Clarkesworld (one of the free Sauútiverse stories listed here): very vivid, with impressive world-building. It's long, but well worth your time.

Time for me to dive into the "Mothersound" Sauútiverse anthology, I think …

With the @sauutiverse.bsky.social about to hit Glasgow to launch the new Flame Tree anthology Sauúti Terrors, @genni.bsky.social whets our appetite with some links to free work from the Afrocentric speculative universe.

This was entirely predictable. 🤦🏾‍♂️
Paramilitary forces reportedly on Venezuela's streets, as the US State Dept tells Americans to leave the country.

Not regime change, not democratization, not a US-friendly coup, not even successful resource theft. Regime decapitation with no follow-on plan, creating instability and nothing else.
In Venezuela, armed ‘colectivos’ are said to be setting up roadblocks and searching vehicles for Americans
