Reminder: before you go full-on defeatist about the rule of law, keep in mind it remains often effective on a micro-level. It’s on the macro- that the FedSoc types have killed it. Hard work and good lawyering can make a difference for regular people — though not always, and not all of them.

Great film should have led to a series of films for Redford as Dortmunder.
Lots of talk about Robert Redford films that have been lost in his large filmography. For my money this is one of the best, Peter Yates’s THE HOT ROCK (1972). A caper or heist film? It doesn’t really matter. The point is it’s great & has one of coolest robbery crews ever assembled on celluloid

Where the films don't feel like just a pastiche of visuals and style. The 1940s 1950s visuals yet it's contemporary is my main thing about neo noir before 1998 with The Limey.

How do you mean we don't get modern noir film till, basically, the 2000s? (Just trying to understand the context.) Obviously there was a lot of earlier neo noir like Point Blank, Night Moves, Chinatown, Kill Me Again, Blood Simple, etc.
