A UK wealth tax sounds simple: "tax the super‑rich, fund public services"

But it's not.

Our 16,000 word deep‑dive shows revenues are fragile, it puts growth, investment and jobs at risk, and there's no revenue before 2029.

Here’s the evidence:

The thing about Europe: it's the actual land of the free now.

Whatever problems Europe has - and it has plenty - it is looking pretty damn good by comparison these days.

You can’t stop fascists by banning them you know, you have to carve out special little exemptions so that no laws whatsoever apply to them and they get to do whatever they want with no consequences. Otherwise the rule of law might be in trouble!

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

if you think we should lock down every winter so people don't get the flu at all then 1) I think you're mental but, crucially, 2) that's an opinion you're allowed to hold, but you've got to be honest about what you're advocating for

I mean also there were lockdowns and even people living alone had to spend weeks on end entirely by themselves, and kids weren't able to go to school, and tons of businesses shut down, I think reducing pandemic measures to "we wore masks and stayed at home when ill" doesn't quite work
At the start of COVID, we all learned how to beat airborne viruses like the flu: by wearing masks and staying home when we are sick. It's a real shame we haven't translated those important lessons into long-term behavioral change.
