Nashville’s got free money for the NFL, but free bus fare? NO WAY. We mustn’t give an inch to the poor! It’s a violation of market principles!

Diana says "funding structures" are an impediment to quickly implementing life-saving projects.

Has anyone asked her who paid the ~$150k to remove the 9th Ave bike lane? Would love to know the answer to that.
“That was not enough,“ said protestor Manaen Hall. ”That was inaction. There are things that NDOT can do and has done elsewhere that greatly improve our safety, and they haven’t chosen to do it here. We’re calling for them to do that.”

"We use coding agents like junior developers".

Cool. So you get the dual benefits of it being slower than an experienced developer to get a half-decent result *and* it never learns.

Bargain!

I really hope Nashville politicians are paying attention to all of the alarming news that has come out around surveillance since passing the “guardrails” legislation.

At this point, it should be glaringly obvious to everyone that there is absolutely no way to safely use surveillance technology.
ICE is getting access to Loews and Home Depot's license plate reader data.

This is what happens when you are a customer of Flock Safety. You think you're securing your parking lot, but really you're feeding surveillance data to ICE.

“IN VIOLATION OF THE DEPARTMENT’S POLICY”

Policies are only as good as the people entrusted to enforce them, my friends. That’s why we cannot give an inch on the surveillance state.
“Richmond police chief Rick Edwards said in a press release Tuesday afternoon that data from the department's license plate reader program was used to assist with immigration enforcement, in violation of the department's policy.”
ATF officials apologize after using Richmond police database for immigration enforcement
"Their analyst should not have been granted access to our system — and absolutely should not have used it for immigration enforcement purposes."

we (sort of) have an answer! I put in a FOIA request on this:

NDOT spent around $150,000 to rip out a safety project and restore 1.5 (call it two) free street parking spaces for the Westview Condos, plus a loading zone on the west side

plus consultant fees, plus staff time
