Nearly creamed by a taxi driver this morning minutes after dropping my 4 year old off at daycare.

Parked in a bike lane and decided to take a u-turn into me. In the middle of downtown.

This is scary as fuck. I'm lucky. We need better infrastructure now.

They came for the bike lanes and sidewalks first, and we did nothing.
it’s fun when contractors make lovely little traffic control plans and file permits for a lane closure and explicitly state that southbound traffic will remain open but then violate the permit and close the whole street

Katherine is supposed to peer reviewing papers right now you can see with her choice of language
Agree the prequels had the potential to fill some important plot gaps and set up future material, but any advantages they had there were completely obliterated by the abysmal execution.

Yesterday @danielmcdonell.bsky.social said he was crossing Gallatin to help a friend clear some trees and invited me to join.

Turns out, that friend is legendary Nashville SC fan and D5 resident Soccer Moses

Oh…oh wow. A *state* DOT:

1. Doing a study
2. Seeking and responding to public feedback
3. Transparently evaluating multiple design alternatives
4. Testing two different traffic scenarios
5. Determining that a 4-lane design with dedicated bus lanes and bicycle lanes works the best for everyone
"The Study's recommended configuration: One bus lane and one vehicle lane in each direction, plus dedicated space for people walking, rolling and biking. This balances multiple needs while prioritizing what works best for the most people."

‼️Honestly, a sea change for WSDOT. Kudos to Anna and others
4 lanes instead of 6 feels like a big victory--especially since one lane each direction will be bus- only.

I'm begging someone to just hire a competent multimodal transportation planner they will get this sorted.
We are spending tens of millions of dollars to try to keep pedestrians away from a brand new downtown road.
Yeah I'm all about building parks but it's clear the motivation here was to relegate pedestrians to a separate level under the streets because the streets in this brand new walkable urban neighborhood will not be safe enough to walk on or cross.

I know there are bigger things going on but this goddamm ice pile is still blocking a bike lane greenway entrance and I feel like it's all related

A good reminder that multimodal transportation planners have NEVER been employed leading the visioning, planning, or design of the East Bank and its streets.
Same reason the pedestrian bridge has to be flown over EBB. We're building it to be impossible to cross, so you have to either go under it or over it. Good luck if you need to leave the tunnels for any reason.

I cannot overstate how regressive this transportation planning is. We can do better.
Got confirmation last night that the development team was told (presumably by NDOT) that East Bank Boulevard would need 4 lanes for cars here to line up with the other side of KVB.

So it turns out decisions have been made, despite NDOT, the mayor's office, and the EBDA all telling us they haven't.
It's very interesting that despite multiple assurances that "no decisions have been made" on East Bank Boulevard, documents like this are being sent to the planning commission “featuring 4 travel lanes.”

If this is the extension, it sure seems like decisions are being made for the rest of it.

I hate being cynical, but this is the agenda format for a one way information sharing, not great for actually getting feedback from the community.

(I had to stay home with the kids so @kemcdonell.bsky.social could go. Hard to even get a babysitter by 5.)

My main concern is the street designs that were included in the framework. I don't think we should be asking the planning commission to approve a document that contains abjectly awful designs that do not meet any of our current standards or policies.

You are so Nashville if your kid's 1.5 mile ride to school requires a practice run on a Sunday morning, stringing together a convoluted route of sidewalks and alleyways because there's not a shred of bicycle infrastructure to keep her safe.

Evil.
Metry and her husband of 4 years go to DHS to get their I-130 in motion. "Good news" a DHS employee told them, the form to start her naturalization was approved.

DHS employee asks the husband to follow him through a secure door. When it locks behind him, ICE detains his wife to deport her.
EXCLUSIVE: Terez Metry was 13 when her family fled to Tennessee from Egypt in 2011. Then, they left her behind. She only recently discovered she had an order of removal from 2011. But she was following the legal path to citizenship. On Monday, at a routine DHS meeting, Metry was detained.
