The current American business climate seems to be "why haven't we *already* slaughtered the goose that lays golden eggs?" over and over and over.
The thing is that there will always be people going, "Why not simply take more now, if we can? Don't we owe it to ourselves to get the most?" And there is, ideally, always somebody there to say "If we sell the floor as firewood, we destroy our ability to function as a business."
