Australia doesn’t need another migration ‘debate’. We need leaders brave enough to tackle inequality for all | Giridharan Sivaraman
Taking the easy but misleading route of blaming migrants for economic insecurity only serves to stoke the already smouldering fires of racism Racism and economic insecurity can have a close relationship in this country. That is most apparent when Australia finds itself pulled into another so-called “debate” about migration. This is usually sparked by populism or attempts to blame complex issues like housing affordability on our annual migrant intake. Across the country, recent rallies and commentary are blaming migrants for a range of woes, from the cost of living to housing supply. Politicians from various sides made similar claims prior to the last federal election. We’re seeing a rise in far-right parties platformed on anti-immigration rhetoric and racism. This rhetoric feeds on genuine economic concerns but ignores the structural forces driving economic insecurity and undermines the right to dignity, security and equality for all. Continue reading...

Chris Bowen was on fire.

Sussan Ley and the LNP history gives a lot of material for him to work with.

Who will ever forget the last decade+ of LNP government, starting with Tony Abbott in 2013. They were terrible years and should never be forgiven for harm and suffering they caused. #auspol

Overstated generosity of Australia’s biggest companies exposed in new report
A new report into 20 of the country’s biggest corporations has found examples of them overstating how generous their reported contributions to the community were.

Watt just wants the deal done so Labor can say they did something.
It’s clear as day that the climate crisis and the environment is not a priority no matter what they SAY.

Minister Watt really is making a mockery of this critically important environmental law reform. If he wanted, he could act on the advice of scientists and experts, and amend Labor's bills, and the Greens would agree to support them. Summon the courage, Murray. www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

Making First Nations prisoners visible in Labor politics
Despite Western Australian Labor’s rhetoric on equality and Closing the Gap, incarcerated First Nations people remain politically invisible. Without formal representation and lived-experience voices in party deliberations, meaningful reform is impossible. The 2027 State Labor Conference is the moment to change that.

This is how our government has been corrupted:

1) Donors give huge sums to elect politicians to office
2) Elected officials rewrite rules in the donors' favor
3) Donors make huge profit
4) Repeat

We must get big money out of politics.

It is the root of our dysfunction.
