In the end, we’re going to have to make some choices about what R1 universities are: institutions of higher learning, pure inquiry, and broad-based research or money machines that blow in the wind with donors and the latest trends. Only one path is viable long term, in my opinion.

The parallels are stark: entire communities were forcibly removed from the West Coast in 1942 and today our immigrant brothers and sisters face the terror of ICE and CBP raids across the country. It was a miscarriage of justice then, and it is a miscarriage of justice now.

We are outraged and deeply distressed that armed federal agents came onto our campus—making arrests on the very ground where, in 1942, Japanese American families were forced to board buses bound for concentration camps. It was a deliberate act of provocation and intimidation.

It looks like the UK government just warned one of our most successful novelists that she will be arrested if she enters the UK. Ireland will be fine as long as we have Sally Rooneys to balance out the John Boynes.

I’m not saying that you never get to come back after you fuck up but bad actions need to have consequences and if you cause horrible pain and misery you shouldn’t get to just make some tweets and promise to gerrymander and have people suck you off for it en masse.

The son of a bitch many Democrats claim to want is someone many liberals can’t stand: Rahm Emanuel. And there’s the rub… Many activists say they crave ruthlessness but—when it comes down to it—they always choose purity and perfection over power. Then they’re shocked and despondent when they lose.

Reading a book on art symbolism published in the 50’s; it opens with this review by a 12 yr old (authors wanted the subject accessible to kids). It stuck out bc how many kids that age under this current education system/AI rot can write and analyze like this? I’ve see flat out illiteracy recently.
