Israeli escalation is so significant that at first when I saw the headline— “Israel strikes Hamas in Doha”— I thought it was a metaphorical, negotiating screed, not a literal air strike.

In the end, we’re going to have to make some choices about what R1 universities are: institutions of higher learning, pure inquiry, and broad-based research or money machines that blow in the wind with donors and the latest trends. Only one path is viable long term, in my opinion.
The hits keep coming. “The departments that won’t be accepting Ph.D. students now include art history, cinema and media studies, classics, comparative literature, East Asian languages and civilizations, English language and literature, Germanic studies, linguistics, Middle Eastern studies…”
More UChicago Ph.D. Programs Will Pause Admissions
The arts and humanities dean said “nearly all” faculty leaders preferred “a broader pause for the division.” Some social sciences programs also aren’t accepting new students.

The parallels are stark: entire communities were forcibly removed from the West Coast in 1942 and today our immigrant brothers and sisters face the terror of ICE and CBP raids across the country. It was a miscarriage of justice then, and it is a miscarriage of justice now.

We are outraged and deeply distressed that armed federal agents came onto our campus—making arrests on the very ground where, in 1942, Japanese American families were forced to board buses bound for concentration camps. It was a deliberate act of provocation and intimidation.

It looks like the UK government just warned one of our most successful novelists that she will be arrested if she enters the UK. Ireland will be fine as long as we have Sally Rooneys to balance out the John Boynes.
Keir Starmer's spokesman asked about author Sally Rooney's plans to donate her royalties to Palestine Action, says that supporting the group is a terrorist offence and "obviously the police will implement the law"

The best part about watching Bari Weiss’ idiot progeny come on this platform is watching them get absolutely shellacked for printing hasbara.

FP is effectively the modern Def Stürmer, and for CBS to even consider buying this rag is a travesty
I recently looked up the Arabic translation of some of the names of the emaciated children used in coverage of the alleged famine in Gaza.

It turns out that many of them were sick before the war and have long, complicated medical histories. Our reporting shows they do not represent the average.

Their poor health is an admission of guilt! What do you think starvation does to the body? This is like a victim of a death march succumbing to exposure, and blaming them for not wearing a coat.

I’m not saying that you never get to come back after you fuck up but bad actions need to have consequences and if you cause horrible pain and misery you shouldn’t get to just make some tweets and promise to gerrymander and have people suck you off for it en masse.

Please have some fucking standards

Why are we talking about Rahm Emanuel as if he doesn't have a well-established executive record of fecklessness & unfitness? We do not have to settle for bandying about the idea of Rahm Emanuel, for we are already cursed with the fact of him.
The son of a bitch many Democrats claim to want is someone many liberals can’t stand: Rahm Emanuel. And there’s the rub… Many activists say they crave ruthlessness but—when it comes down to it—they always choose purity and perfection over power. Then they’re shocked and despondent when they lose.

There’s a brand of political thinker (call them “normie optimists”) that reflexively treats this all as ephemeral.

“Just wait for the midterms. Focus on the right messaging and win those swing districts.”

I just want to stare at them and say “Emil Bove has been confirmed to a lifetime judgeship.”

I don’t understand why a brand would self-own like this. It’s giving Assistant to the Regional Manager.

They call it your third workplace.

Reading a book on art symbolism published in the 50’s; it opens with this review by a 12 yr old (authors wanted the subject accessible to kids). It stuck out bc how many kids that age under this current education system/AI rot can write and analyze like this? I’ve see flat out illiteracy recently.
