The “truth” is that Harvard University must defend academic freedom against Trump’s attacks

From the looks of this, there are four people on the Russian side of the table (including Putin).

And there are just two on the American side — an interpreter of unknown provenance, and a golf buddy of Trump’s who has no training or experience in high-stakes diplomacy

Texans just having it too damn good. Need to punish them with higher energy prices again, or they might start getting ideas about how things could be better.
Texas Republicans are getting closer than ever to killing the state’s renewable energy boom, according to the clean energy industry — not only by halting new development in its tracks, but also by possibly sending scores of existing projects to an early grave. trib.al/LAAfZx3

They’re falling for the wallet inspectors
NBC reports that, shockingly, during his latest Moscow pilgrimage Witkoff met with Putin and his two negotiators alone and without his own interpreter, relying - in breach of protocol - on a locally present one www.nbcnews.com/world/russia.... However, this seems half the problem (1/n)
Trump envoy relied on Kremlin interpreter in meetings with Putin to end war in Ukraine
Using the Kremlin’s interpreter was “a very bad idea” that put Witkoff “at a real disadvantage,” Michael McFaul, a former U.S. ambassador to Russia, told NBC News.

If you’re an ICE agent or other local authority committing these unwarranted abductions, fuck you, you’re not just doing your job, you’re failing a moral test. May you never sleep peacefully again
One notable arrest over the weekend left two children unattended after a man was taken from a gas station by what appeared to be a group of ICE agents.

Harvard has become a symbol of defiance for refusing to cave to the administration’s demands.

But on campus, many say the mood is one of frustration and fear.

Many describe a changed campus, one where the “best and brightest” may no longer feel welcome.

Trump's attempt to bully Harvard will just make Harvard stronger. It gives them an opportunity to distinguish themselves from the appeasement artists at Columbia, and show their quality.

The university’s case against the administration is incredibly strong. The question is whether normal rules still apply.

Today Kaufmann says that Trump's impact on academic freedom is "likely to be net positive".

Don’t be next Harvard.
Columbia University, once the academic home of Edward Said, has chosen to become the canary in the mine of neofascist, zionist, Trumpist bullying. In so doing, Columbia has ceased to be a university. Goodnight Columbia. No amount of luck can save you now. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Let’s hope Harvard alumni are also appalled at the apparent cave of their alma mater. #FightBack
Columbia is in trouble. Alumni are appalled at what’s happening. A friend of mine in Hawaiʻi is a 4th generation Columbia graduate, and his son didn’t even apply. He’s given >$1 million to Columbia and said never again.

Harvard should not follow suit.
"Our father, Michael I. Sovern, was the first Jewish president of Columbia University, which he served for more than 60 years. We believe that if he were alive today, he would be disgusted by the government’s coercion of Columbia, purportedly in the name of our religion." wapo.st/3RsPilK

Absolutely.

That Harvard thinks it can placate authoritarianism by betraying its community - and in going along with the conflating of anti-genocide protests with actual antisemitism - is so utterly contemptible. They are the evil Hannah Arendt spoke of. Complicity, legitimization, betrayal.
Vichy France didn't have any concentration camps.
But it did round up those who'd be sent there.

First Columbia, now Harvard.
