Our biggest shortcoming is our lack of imagination.

We struggle with paradigm shifts. That’s why we’re not acting on the climate crisis. We can’t imagine the ship really is sinking. That we have but hours to prepare. We still think we’ll be in NY harbour by Wednesday.
This is why the left loses.

Too busy shooting itself in the face. This, from a climate journalist and activist. Fucking hell.

Good luck with everything, folks. I quit.
What was actually said is that progressives throughout the world DO see the US as a cautionary tale. It's why Poilievre didn't win the Canadian elections.

But that was too hard a pill to swallow, evidently. When your first reflex is to block allies who politely disagree, you're part of the problem.

This got me blocked… Wow.

American patriotism really is deeply ingrained. To the point of being a cult-like psychosis—even amongst some of its so-called progressives.

And then they wonder why things are the way they are.
#ElbowsUp, Canada. With allies like these, who needs enemies.

It’s been the CPC’s modus operandi: discredit journalism, science, facts. Overrule reason with emotional responses to fabricated scandals.

In an age of unregulated social media where bad actors pay to promote false narratives, the recipe works.

What are we going to do about it? #CdnPoli

If there were *actual, foolproof* guardrails against corporate, personal & governmental overreach, Meta Ray-Bans would be a useful piece of kit.

But these are designed to manipulate the user via hyper-personalized profiling and track everything in the commons. Not just creepy—dangerous.

A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people.

Sound efficient?

The DC Sandwich Thrower''s trial started today.

His lawyers say it's retaliation since the CBP agent hit with the sandwich was not injured.

The federal agent who shot Rev. David Black with a pepper ball at point-blank range faces zero charges.

A sandwich gets more accountability than a cop.

Has anyone else been dealing with some serious headline whiplash recently?

Even for those of us who follow #climate and #energy matters closely, it can be hard to know what the hell is going on!

So here's a thread to help climate communicators get a grip on how to deal with this 🧵

Yet more report whiplash, as groups vie to frame the #climate discourse ahead of #COP30.

"progress... has largely failed to materialize"

"Renewables are expanding faster than any previous energy technology"

"No major economy is on track"

"emerging markets have made major strides"

Another piece of the flailing American resistance falls. Another crack in civilization’s foundation forms.

Do you know how this ends? Because students of history know how this ends. With one key difference: there will be no rebuilding this time. Climate-induced ecological collapse guarantees it.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Carney’s going to have to do better in addressing increasing income inequality and corporate interference, or else (as in the US in the wake of Democratic complacency) public anger will drown out reason and protofascism will prevail here too. (1/3)

Partly because so many formerly leftwing parties have turned to the right, there's a lot of confusion about what right and left mean in politics. I hope this helps:

The right defends economic power.

The left resists economic power.

Since they know everything about you—via your online chatter, purchases, irl movement—they can go one step further and not just appeal to you, but manipulate you. Social engineering is nothing new.

But it's now democratized, weaponized, unleashed. The more you can pay, the more it will play.
Now do political ads. Highly personalized, precision-targeted inflammatory disinformation. Humanity doesn't stand a chance.

We either vote in people who can and will regulate these industries NOW, or democracy is cooked. Like a mob accountant's books.

The Future of Advertising Is AI Generated Ads That Are Directly Personalized to You
"Advertisers are increasingly just going to be able to give us a business objective and give us a credit card or bank account, and have the AI system basically figure out everything else."

Technically true: Graham Platner didn’t work for Blackwater - but he did work for its successor, Constellis.

Blackwater → Xe → Academi → Constellis.

After the 2007 Nisour Square massacre, Blackwater rebranded repeatedly before merging into Constellis - where Platner later contracted.

We’re headed down a very dark path unless we band together now to stop the systemic acceleration of environmental—and with it societal—collapse

The opposite of fascism is compassion, but solidarity requires trust, which relies on integrity—not cynicism, not fear

Hope depends on audacity
Think big
To anyone asking why Hillary lost in 2016: this is why. This has always been why.

The US could have had Bernie, could still have AOC. But the narrative remains "they are unelectable". Why? Because the media and democratic establishment keep making it so—reinforcing a deeply corrupt system.

Halloween signs I'm not allowed to put up:

"Long COVID is crippling your child's entire generation—you just don't see it yet"

"The climate is now pushing our ecosystem towards irreversible collapse. Soon, these memories are all your kids will have left"

Fiction is fun. Reality is terrifying.
