Social studies teachers: How will you teach about racially-profiled ICE raids/deportations to third countries this fall? Violates numerous constitutional protections (and frankly cruel). How to avoid the both-sides trap? How to confront injustice without seeming simply partisan? #sschat #edusky

Senator Chris Van Hollen goes off on Donald Trump:

"He's trying to convert those positions into positions can be filled by his political cronies...But what this is, is an attempt to push out these merit-based civil servants, 50 to 60 thousand of them so he can put political hacks in those jobs."

Having watched with growing alarm the developments of the last 24 and 36 hours in Washington, I thought I’d take a stab at how the US media would cover this story if it was happening in a foreign country. Here’s that story that should be written this weekend: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/musk-s-jun...

ICE detained a family—including a toddler—after they were overheard speaking Spanish. They’re US citizens from Puerto Rico.

No chance to explain. The mother, grandmother, and child were shopping when ICE agents took them into detention before admitting their “mistake.”

My colleagues at @historians.org released this report last fall, and it’s worth a read and a share. History teachers are teaching history about ALL Americans, with evidence and primary sources. Trust them as the professionals they are.

do you enjoy knowing that when you deposit money in a US bank, you won't lose that money? nice, right?

it's because bank deposits are insured by FDIC.

i don't know what FDIC ever did to these people, but apparently it too is now on their blow-it-up list:

A government-wide hiring freeze is adding to a staffing shortage at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., complicating the agency’s efforts to oversee thousands of banks across the country.
