Everywhere, honestly. There is so much that you can draw from the world around you. My brain is constantly firing off ideas based on some mundane thing that's happened.

The Nightmare before Kissmas by Sara Raasch. Very much a gay romance, very much not my usual genre. But also, very well written and engaging. I read it on a friend's recommendation.

Such Sweet Sorrow has officially hit the midpoint today.

In Such Sweet Sorrow, Rebecca is human, she has regular encounters with a ghost. She's terrified of him at first.
Are your characters human?
If not, tell me a little about what they are!
If so, are there any non-human species they interact with regularly? Tell me a bit about them and the type of relationship they have!

Privilege.
People cannot see what they have until they lose it. All of my characters, especially my male characters, start from a place of comfort and then have that completely ripped away.
Alternately, the arrogant asshole is really fun to break down...

Hello! I'm Artemis Quinn, and I write dark fantasy and grief horror! All of my stories so far have a level of paranormal to them, as well. There's not tons of men in my stories, actually. They are defined by their confidence/privilege, which usually is a folly, but not always.
Q1 has arrived. It's international men's day today, and I thought actually that's a good topic. Not the easiest one to build questions around, either. So if I do not hit the mark I am sure you will forgive me.
As usual, no links, no pitches, not till the end.

I've actually finished one before noon, for once, look at that! Talking about the November challenge I'm participating in, the upcoming Q1 challenge I'm planning to run, and the Night Garden tarot decks. Check it out!

Right now, the most challenging thing is I guess line edits. I repeat myself a lot and am an overwriter, so I need to fight myself to pare down and make things easier to understand.

Such Sweet Sorrow's alternate title could be Screw Ghosts, and Screw My Aunt.
Lemon Balm's working title was, A Vampire and a Werewolf Walk Into A Church... (There's No Punchline)
Give us an alternate title to your WIP. Another title you considered, your working title, or a joke title.
Potential examples:
Of Mice and Men was originally Something That Happened
The Da Vinci Code might've been ScavengerHuntWIP
Frankenstein could be How to Make a Guy in 10 Days
Such Sweet Sorrow's alternate title could be Screw Ghosts, and Screw My Aunt.

Anne Rice - for making vampires these achingly imperfect, toxic, feeling monsters you can empathize with.
Mary Shelley - for showing that those that are different aren't always bad or wrong.
T Kingfisher - for finding humor in darkness.
Edgar Allan Poe - for haunting prose and wit.
Follow the directions on the prompt card and explore the many genres readers love.

Acanthus, hands down. I could write about them forever and not be bored.
Nocturne, Lykaia, and Elena are also high up on my list.

Stephen King is one of the most prolific horror writers in the modern zeitgeist. This one is still rated fairly high from what I can see, but I hated it. The characters weren't engaging, there wasn't much horror to the story even though the premise was interesting. Not my fav.

Bookbinding, singing, reading, acting, and on occasion watching movies.
Art and writing, but I also do those for money :P

Rebecca could talk for hours about art history, particularly the socioeconomic standing of artist when the impressionists were painting, and some of the struggles that they faced.
(Bonus: in Lemon Balm, Acanthus could teach a masterclass on herbalism, creating code, or good trouble)
