If you look at Théodule-Augustin Ribot's still-lifes (this is a basket of quince from c1870) for long enough you will see they are typically arranged like a group portrait, with rows, one in front of another, like close and nervous families, a little bit huddled and withdrawn.

Reform's Chris Parry tweets "unfulfilled" to signal that he in 2025 still seeks to fulfil Enoch Powell's 1968 call for the mass repatriation of migrants + minorities from Britain. This was in response to criticism of his telling David Lammy to "go home" & questioning Lenny Henry's loyalty to Britain

Reform is a party of cuts - their whole ideology is pretty much

1) Cut government spending
2) Deportations

The area most affected by these policies would be social care impacting the most vulnerable in society.

Derbyshire gives us a taster of what to expect with the party in power.

Reality bites

Our expensive experiment with isolation from Europe is unwinding. Forget Labour’s embarrassingly futile slogan of “make Brexit work”, its insistence on red lines & fear of doing anything that might reignite Brexit passions. Now it is accelerating from tiptoe to trot towards Europe

We need to stop talking about a “crisis of trust” as if the public are behaving irrationally. We have a crisis of *trustworthiness* in politics, and we seem deeply in denial about it.

Caring about human rights isn’t “woke.” Yet the right-wing seems to think it is. It raises the question: what would they do if all their 'woke' hard-won rights were stripped away? Would they celebrate losing the right to a fair trial, freedom of movement, or their right to work?
