I agree that video games are often underpriced compared to the enjoyment you get out of them, but the industry’s problems seem more related to abysmal management than consumers being unwilling to pay for good games.

AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising

In FF14, I am serious about properly acquiring cosmetic items in-game and wearing them as intended as opposed to modding them in. Partly because most mods are clientside, partly because I like the devs enough to devote the time (and sometimes money) necessary to get those cosmetics

Someone's screenshot of a two-post twitter thread, from user blue (@bluewmist): the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much. you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.
