I was thinking about King's comments again after he 'accidentally' voted for a bad judge. Maybe having the 81 year old is going senile?

I think the quick negative statements by normie centrist Dems outside of the Senate reflects their read that the vote is very unpopular with the base, at least in the short run.
Interesting that NY gov Kathy Hochul felt compelled to put out a statement against Dems' deal to end the shutdown

the message is clear that Republicans are in charge permanently, can kill any D legislation with the filibuster, never need to govern at all, and when pressed, they can threaten the lives of millions any time they want and they will be given whatever it is they demand in exchange for their mercy.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.
The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.
People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.
And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

They caved in March so they could get a better deal now. They’re caving now so they can get a better deal in some indeterminate future. The better deal is always just beyond their reach, but continuing to cave will get them there. And if you don’t agree with that, you don’t understand Politics,

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

i think a lot of dems are unaware of just how much they're demoralizing their base, to the point of advocating *against* democrats, whenever this stuff happens. the conspiracy theories aren't true, but they're easy to believe, especially when conveniently amplified by an algorithm

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

All across America last week, Dems showed up and generally kicked the piss out of the Republicans who are hellbent on destroying our country and our freedoms.
To have a bunch of squishy, out of touch Senators completely sell us out just as the Republicans were starting to crack sucks.

and the yeerks, they're strong negotiators, folks. they get in through your ears- just like pacifism, just like quietism in the face of true evil. one of the kids turns into a psychic eagle, though, and i don't really get that part, to tell you the truth. it's like the tiger, giraffe, horse.
they said "i don't understand, why are all the adults infested by blind, grey slugs?" and frankly, folks, it's understandable. it makes sense. k.a. applegate's framing device is quite masterful, we like it a lot- the future pays the price for the present's intransigence. very strong, very big.

New from me in @newrepublic.com: “Primary Every Democrat.”
If the current crop cannot demonstrate they care more about democracy than enjoying three-day weekends, we should flood the zone and challenge them all.

Primary Every Democrat
It’s exhausting to watch poll-tested, donor-beholden congressional Democrats continue to be too old, too cloistered, and too bumbling to do anything as the government burns.

Senator Schumer has failed to lead this party in one of its most critical moments, and Americans will pay the price. It’s time for him to step down from leadership and make way for a new generation willing to fight for the people instead of the powerful.
