"Take away our ability to speak, and we can still think, reason, form beliefs, fall in love, and move about the world; our range of what we can experience and think about remains vast.

But take away language from a large language model, and you are left with literally nothing at all"
Grateful to The Verge for publishing my essay on why large-language models are not going to achieve general intelligence nor push the scientific frontier.

I think the Greenbelt thing was one thing - Doug allowing his buddies to profit using inside help - but this Skills Development thing is something else entirely: Doug giving our money to buddies to enrich them - and to help get Doug re-elected.

“A government does not reach for the notwithstanding clause four times in a month unless something is deeply wrong. This isn’t normal. It isn’t safe. And it isn’t democracy. Each time rights are pushed aside, a warning siren is blaring: Power is being placed above people.”

Evangelical Christianity a Big Driver of Alberta's Authoritarian Libertarianism?

Yup, IMO.

~25% of Alberta identify as evangelical Christians.

Explains a lot, doesn't it?

Yes, school refusal due to bullying and/or mental health issues absolutely should be covered (I had a period of school refusal, so I get it.) But it's a bit bizarre that there is no mention in this increased school absences story of the recently introduced virus that kids get regularly now.
Reported illnesses have tripled in some school districts. Some say mental health is a factor https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/school-absences-illness-mental-health-9.6988661

Any one of you that buys jewellery stolen by the UK state from a migrant is a collaborator.
Stealing refugees' jewellery won't make anyone's life better.
Deporting children won't make anyone's life better.
Making people wait 20 years to settle won't make anyone's life better.

If Government chooses hostility over helping communities, more division and racism are the only possible results.

Here’s something that’s really important for everyone to understand.

If we design our cities just for cars, they fail everyone, including drivers.

If we design our cities with many great CHOICES in how to get around, they work better for everyone, including drivers.

Spread the word.

A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)

Ford has no business interfering in cities. He has zero idea or understanding of transportation or land use policy, nor the policy levers it takes to make cities work.
If u care about better cities for people in Ontario Canada, please pay attention to what Premier Ford is doing. Not only would his new bill block cities from building bike-lanes if they touch car lanes, he’s talking about imposing his own street standards & standardized official plans in EVERY city.

I legitimately think this article misses the mark, because Canadians are not avoiding travel out of some principled boycott of the USA over tariffs.

Canadians who are avoiding the USA are seeing images of masked government thugs kidnapping people and teargassing children.
