Now that Cohost is essentially dead, I'm going to tell a story about why caving to extremists doesn't work.

When I first signed up for Cohost, some "concerned people" wrote to staff saying that I was using the Cohost platform to "provoke KF" (by posting factual info about deplatforming status).

even aftermath is "profitable", in that we make more money than we spend.

the issue has never been about profitability in the space. it's that inept ownership across the board just dont think its profitable ENOUGH.

kotaku was profitable for almost its entire pre-G/O existence, raking in 20-40 million unique visitors a month on a relative shoestring budget (6-15ish people, vs competitors with dozens or even 100s of staff).
Do not fall for the lies of c-suites. Not making enough money for endless growth goons is not “inherently unprofitable.” Media is very challenging, yes, but the vultures want you to believe these layoffs are inevitable and necessary.

LLMs are the great dunce mask-off moment. If you think these things are magical you are credulous beyond redemption.

How would a person who doesn't have the knowledge have the ability to tell between correct and incorrect answers? How would they know what to ask?
I have to admit that I've been surprised at the level of hate at AI LLMs.

There is finally a tool that allows those without access to an advanced education to self learn, anywhere , anytime. To get answers to questions, (even if sometimes wrong) , that they would otherwise never have access to

it's exactly the same insecure loser behavior, which always metastasizes into being a bully as soon as they think they have the chance to have any power. They know the wrestlers and the has-been rappers would never hang out with them if they had no money. They need to have victims to target.

the thing about Zuck at this point, when he was first going out in the world, he was literally sweating through his clothes (hoodies) onstage, desperately following around the "cool kids" of tech at the time (folks like Kevin Rose), desperately and obviously wanting their approval. He's still that.
I posted this 17 years ago, when I was sitting in the green room at South by Southwest next to Mark Zuckerberg as we were each about to go onstage to our respective panels
