Car bad
What is the most frequent individual (non-interlined) rapid transit service in the US? It's gotta be the 7 train in NYC right?

Why aren’t we doing this?

We need physical objects in buffer zones to make drivers slow down because they’re more afraid of scratching their car than killing someone
So what could be done here?

We need to take the buffer zone and sight lines seriously. We need to narrow the travel lanes by adding a hard centerline. Buffer zones can't just be paint and the signs need to move next to the car lanes they impact.

couldn't agree more. there's nowhere in Seattle RRFBs are good replacement for a 4-way stop. I especially dislike them where greenway routes cross arterials. Drivers do not yield unless you aggressively step or roll into the road even with lights activated. and sometimes, they don't even stop.
Pretty much every "nighthawk" intersection should be a stop sign.

Bad street design, purposely meant to increase traffic speeds in pedestrian heavy areas.
Just after midnight last night, a driver struck and killed a 38-year man who was riding his bike at Beacon Avenue S and S Stevens Street in a hit-and-run.

Holy shit this is awful, especially when it wouldn't even include a station in Belltown.
In the interline scenario, Ballard Link would actually skip Westlake Station, with trains instead heading north from Third Avenue from Symphony Station. This would require suspending existing light rail service for "potentially years" along with the Third Ave bus corridor.

Georgetown is a really cool neighborhood that I should visit more often. Also more bikeable than expected!

Sounder electrification when
After twenty minutes of discussion, the cause of the disruption has been revealed to have been a faulty fuel gauge. The train ran out of gas.

Amending this to say rail should replace the entirety of I-5 through downtown Seattle and all the cars can go away forever actually
My dream is rail replacing the I-5 express lanes (probably not at high speeds in the city) and excavating a new station by the convention center

Paul has been talking about the tax loophole that Seattle country clubs have been enjoying for a while now but WOW I did not know how big

This is Broadmoor Golf Club. It's a gated right-wing enclave for the rich in Seattle. The golf course is 7 parcels, 122.2 acres. It's assessed at just $76k/ACRE!

This is low key embarrassing, can we just have automated trains?
Link operator doing his best MTA impression lmao

*whispers*
(the freeway is underground)
(there is still a wide surface road)
(there is barely any transit)

Lack of bike lanes on Rainier Ave is actually a human rights violation

Watched an elderly woman in Chinatown hurry across a crosswalk in front of an SUV at a stop sign 😢

Yeah idk about this. Seattle in 2010 was pretty nice. More affordable, cleaner, less aggressive drivers. I would trade everything except light rail to go back.
Almost certainly Seattle. Population went from 600k->800k, the city went from no rail system to a top-10 busiest network, region became an absolute economic powerhouse, there’s a total transformation of the waterfront, and so much more

Ngl, 4 minute headways might actually make me move back to north Seattle 👀
I-90 light rail update: before the end of the month, 2 Line testing will start extending up to Lynnwood, with out-of-service trains running in between normal trains. Riders won't be able to board, but this will be a preview of what 4 minute headways north of downtown look like.

Cars are weapons. Drivers are murderers. Our society thinks this is 100% acceptable, if it means not having to be I the bus with a poor person. If it means getting your fucking Wendy’s five minutes sooner. Sickening.
I wonder if we'll ever get the memo that roads designed for high speeds allow for high speeds, and thus high speed accidents

(warning for cars crashing footage)

This is an international disaster. They targeted a disabled fishing boat in Colombian territorial waters and killed fishermen.
