Are things like this, all happening on social media, mostly under the radar, the reason I hear ordinary people talk about Keir Starmer with such vitriol like I've never heard before? @alastaircampbell2.bsky.social @restispolitics.bsky.social
Videos seen thousands of times on Facebook claim the government is banning people from using their central heating after 9pm from 1 November.

But this is completely false. There is no such policy.
No, the government isn’t banning central heating after 9pm – Full Fact
Videos being shared on Facebook falsely claim the government is introducing a 9pm cut-off for using your central heating, with people who breach it at risk of fines.

#DoctorWho fans will breathe a sigh of relief that the Disney hiatus is over, whatever the longer term future may be.

If something can be worked out, perhaps the 2026 special will see Ncuti return (saved by Bad Wolf herself) and lead us into a proper new series (or is that new new new series?

It’s impossible to avoid the conclusion that large parts of Westminster remaining on X - a platform that tolerates and amplifies extremism and racism - has led a great many people to normalise what previously was unacceptable.

I appreciate that the Green Party is going through a massive surge of support. But anyone with any sense knows this is actually a dangerous moment, as new members vastly outnumber long-term ones, and thereby end up as something else entirely.
Sorry you've been a victim of fake news.

I said this morning to @vicderbyshire.bsky.social that the Green Party had passed 123,000 members.

A couple of hours later it's out of date. @greenparty.org.uk have 126,000! 🎉🚀

In any sane world, the President of the United States posting an image of himself wearing a crown, flying a plane called "King Trump" and depositing, erm, brown fluid over "No Kings" protestors would surely be grounds for censure or impeachment. That it won't happen justified the real protests.

“The UK has a system in which a TV channel can pay a political leader almost half a million pounds a year and give him an hour an evening to react to his rivals without breaking a single rule.”
You might think controlling GB News gives you huge influence over UK politics – especially on the right. But that's just the tip of the iceberg, as we reveal in this week's issue of @thenewworldmag.bsky.social

"What it does is stop the agony that people in Gaza have been suffering for two years"

"But it doesn't create a future path for them"

"Maybe that can come"

A century ago, in the 1920s, the rise of Labour split the Liberals in two, pulling social Liberals to the left and pushing economic Liberals to the Tories in response. Are we seeing the Tories finally splinter, the fringe off to Reform, so the liberal Tories head off in the other direction?

Johnson’s cull of MPs prepared to tell the truth about Brexit consigned the Tories to the absurdity & irrelevance they currently enjoy. The media’s pitiful complicity in & failure to explain this lets Farage move in to the vacated space despite embodying the stupidity & bigotry that did for them.

To be clear, I don't endorse calling anyone "idiots". But it's certainly idiotic.
So, let's see if I've got this straight?

The world has changed enough for Labour to go back on their bedrock promise not to raise taxes.

But not enough for them to scuff out their red lines on Brexit, the single most damaging drag on the UK economy.

Idiots.

I thought these Right-leaning justices were supposed to be "originalists". Is there some "originalists" interpretation of the Constitution that the power of the purse *didn't* belong solely to Congress?
BREAKING: Supreme Court ruling allows the Trump admin to unilaterally refuse to spend $4B in congressionally appropriated foreign assistance funds.

The ruling allows the admin to ignore Congress's power of the purse – in violation of fundamental separation of powers principles.

I’ve had a number of arguments on here along these lines:

“ID cards work fine in Europe, why not here?”

They *do* work in Europe, but *not* as immigration enforcement. If Labour want to push them for other uses, then please make that case.

For immigration enforcement? It won’t work.

The case for ID cards as a way to make white, middle-class respectable citizens’ lives easier is a very different one to that for immigration enforcement.

I know this may be counterintuitive, but those opposing ID cards don’t need to make a case against them. The converse: those proposing them need to make a case for them.

Ok. They’ve pissed me off.

I’m back to tell you 3 things about ID cards:

1. Migrants ALREADY HAVE biometric ID cards & govts have been trying to digitise them for years w repeated fuckups & failures causing complete chaos - they don’t work, you do not want that system for you.

Ming Campbell was a dedicated public servant and a true Liberal giant.

His principled leadership opposing the Iraq War was a mark of his morality, courage and wisdom.

But more than that, he was an incredibly warm and caring friend and colleague.

We will miss him terribly.

We already have unique Identifiers for the NHS and HMRC. Unnecessary to add another. It won’t fix anything.
Most enthusiastic supporters are thinking of small (population) Eu countries and those I’ve seen are also white. I’ve also experienced first hand how Singapore uses/abuses its ID cards.
